Cachan
Cachan () is a commune in the southern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located from the center of Paris. The prestigious École normale supérieure Paris-Saclay and École Spéciale des Travaux Publics are located there. Name During the Middle Ages, Cachan was referred to in Medieval Latin texts as ''Caticantum'', later corrupted into ''Cachentum'', ''Cachant'', and then Cachan. Some understand ''Caticantum'' as meaning "singing of the cat", "mewing of the cat", but this is not certain. Some others see a connection with the verb "to hunt" (''captiare'' in Vulgar Latin, ''chacier'' in Old French). History Cachan was originally a hamlet within the commune of Arcueil, later renamed ''Arcueil-Cachan''. Arcueil–Cachan (Paris RER)
Arcueil–Cachan is a station on the line B of the Réseau Express Régional, a hybrid suburban commuter and rapid transit line. This will also be a station for Paris Metro Line 15. The station takes its name from its location near the city of Arcueil and inside the town of Cachan. History Inaugurated on 23 June 1846, this station is one of the oldest on the line, opened on 7 June 1846. The line manager had his premises there until the 1980s. It served as a model for many other stations on the section going to Orsay. Although bearing the name of the two municipalities of Arcueil and Cachan, the passenger station is located in the territory of Cachan. The neighboring municipality of Arcueil also has access to Laplace station, further north on line B (towards Paris), which is located on its territory. Arcueil () is a commune in the Val-de-Marne department in the southern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located from the center of Paris. Name The name Arcueil was recorded for the first time in 1119 as ''Arcoloï'', and later in the 12th century as ''Arcoïalum'', meaning "place of the arches" (Latin radical ''arcus'', "arch", and Celtic suffix ''-ialo'', "clearing, glade", "place of"), in reference to the Roman aqueduct carrying water to the Roman city of ''Lutetia'' (modern Paris). Bagneux station ( French: ''Gare de Bagneux'') is a station on the line B of the Réseau Express Régional, a hybrid suburban commuter and rapid transit line. The station takes its name from its location near the city of Bagneux, Hauts-de-Seine, but the station itself is inside the town of Cachan. Railway situation The station is located in Cachan, at the edge of the D920 (ex-RN20), named avenue Aristide-Briand at this point, the main north / south axis which marks the municipal and departmental limit with Bagneux. It also bears the name of “Pont Royal”, a public road south of the station being called “avenue du Pont-Royal”. François Bazin (sculptor)
François Bazin was born in Paris on 31 October 1897 and died in Paris in 1956. His parents were engravers and medalists. Early years were spent in Chile where his parents taught at the Santiago art college. The family returned to Paris in 1913 and Bazin enrolled at the Paris École des Beaux-Art. He was mobilized in 1916 and attached to a squadron whose planes were equipped with Hispano Suiza engines. After the war he completed his studies and was runner-up for the Prix de Rome in 1925. Although not a Breton many of his works can be seen in Brittany including "The monument aux bigoudens", the monument at the Pointe de Pen Hir and the "Filles de la mer" statue at Quimper. RER B is one of the five lines in the Réseau Express Régional (English: Regional Express Network), a hybrid commuter rail and rapid transit system serving Paris, France and its Île-de-France suburbs. The RER B line crosses the region from north to south, with all trains serving a group of stations in central Paris, before branching out towards the ends of the line. The line opened in stages starting in December 1977 by connecting two existing suburban commuter rail lines with a new tunnel under Paris: the Chemin de Fer du Nord to the north (which formerly terminated at Gare du Nord) and the Ligne de Sceaux to the south (which formerly terminated at Luxembourg station). History The ESTP was founded in 1891 by Léon Eyrolles and was officially recognized by the State in 1921.
