Connecticut Roller Derby is a women's flat-track roller derby league based in Naugatuck (Greater Waterbury), Connecticut. Founded in 2006, the league reached its 10th anniversary in 2016. Connecticut Roller Derby is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History and league structure Connecticut Roller Derby was launched as "CT RollerGirls" in March 2006, and by early 2009 was attracting up to 500 fans to games held at venues such as the Connecticut Sports Center. Connecticut Roller Derby has travel teams and home teams. The home teams play each other, and are the Bone Crushers, the Iron Angels, and the Widowmakers, whereas the two travel teams, The CT All-Stars and The Yankee Brutals, play teams from other leagues, with the All-Stars representing the league at the WFTDA level. Naugatuck is a consolidated borough and town in New Haven County, Connecticut, United States. The town spans both sides of the Naugatuck River just south of Waterbury and includes the communities of Union City on the east side of the river, which has its own post office, Straitsville on the southeast (along Route 63), and Millville on the west (along Rubber Avenue). Dominion Derby Girls
Dominion Derby Girls is a women's flat-track roller derby league based in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Dominion Derby Girls is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA. History and organization Home bouts for DDG are held at the Haygood Skating Center in Virginia Beach, their home skating rink. East Region (WFTDA)
The WFTDA's East Region was formed in 2006. In 2009, teams from the western part of the region were moved into the North Central and South Central Regions. WFTDA Championships
The International Women's Flat Track Derby Association Championships ("WFTDA Championships" or "Champs" for short) are the leading competition for roller derby leagues. Women's Flat Track Derby Association Rankings
Rankings for the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) are used to determine placement in overall standings (rather than win–loss record) and also to determine seedings at WFTDA Playoffs. Achieving high rankings is also a goal for teams aiming to increase their stature in the organization. Each year at the end of June, teams are seeded into Division 1 and Division 2 playoff tournaments. Historically, the top 40 teams in the WFTDA as of June 30 were eligible for Division 1 tournaments that season, and the teams ranked 41–60 were eligible for Division 2 tournaments. For 2017, the Division 1 cutoff was reduced to the top 36 teams, with the next 16 teams qualifying for Division 2 Playoffs. Providence Roller Derby (PRD) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Providence, Rhode Island. Founded in 2004 as the first all-female, flat-track roller derby league in New England, Providence is a founding member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History Sarah Kingan, using the derby name "Sarah Doom", a Brown University alumna, established Providence Roller Derby in 2004.
