Burlington is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Lawrence County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,676 at the 2010 census. Burlington is a part of the Huntington- Ashland, WV- KY- OH, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). As of the 2010 census, the MSA had a population of 287,702. The community is situated between the villages of South Point and Chesapeake. Its other neighbor is Huntington, West Virginia, which lies across the Ohio River; it is connected via the West Huntington Bridge. Burlington was once the leading community of Lawrence County, being the first county seat and the location of the county's first post office. Ohio History Connection, formerly The Ohio State Archaeological and Historical Society and Ohio Historical Society, is a nonprofit organization incorporated in 1885. Headquartered at the Ohio History Center in Columbus, Ohio, Ohio History Connection provides services to both preserve and share Ohio's history, including its prehistory, and manages over 50 museums and sites across the state. West Huntington Bridge
The West Huntington Bridge (officially named the Nick Joe Rahall II Bridge, also called the West End Bridge or the 17th Street West Bridge) is a two-lane, cantilever bridge on the west side of Huntington, West Virginia, United States. It crosses the Ohio River and carries U.S. Route 52 between Ohio State Route 7 and Interstate 64. Background The bridge was completed in 1968 at the cost of $5.2 million as part of the West Huntington Expressway. West Virginia Route 94 was signed on this bridge until 1984 when U.S. Route 52 was diverted on to a new route with Interstate 64. In 1999, the bridge was closed to traffic for refurbishing, which included a new driving surface, barriers and a green paint scheme. Chesapeake is a village in Lawrence County, Ohio, United States. The population was 691 at the 2020 census. It lies across the Ohio River from Huntington, West Virginia, at the mouth of Symmes Creek.
