British Society Of Cinematographers
The British Society of Cinematographers (abbreviated B.S.C. or BSC) was formed in 1949 by Bert Easey (23 August 1901 – 28 February 1973), the then head of the Denham and Pinewood studio camera departments, to represent British cinematographers in the British film industry. The stated objectives at the formation of the BSC were: * To promote and encourage the pursuit of the highest standards in the craft of Motion Picture Photography. * To further the applications by others of the highest standards in the craft of Motion Picture Photography and to encourage original and outstanding work. * To Cooperation, co-operate with all whose aims and interests are wholly or in part related to those of the society. * To provide facilities for social intercourse between the members and arrange lectures, debates and meetings calculated to further the objects of the Society. Pinewood Studios is a British film and television studio located in the village of Iver Heath, England. It is approximately west of central London. The studio has been the base for many productions over the years from large-scale films to television programmes, commercials, and pop promos. Billy Williams (cinematographer)
Billy Williams OBE, BSC (born 3 June 1929, Walthamstow, London) is a British cinematographer. Williams was responsible for shooting a number of films, including ''Women in Love'' (1969), '' On Golden Pond'' (1981) and ''Gandhi'' (1982), for which he won an Academy Award. Williams joined his father, also named Billy, as an apprentice cameraman, remaining with him for four years. Later he served in the RAF as a photographer. On leaving the RAF he obtained a job with British Transport Films (BTF), filming all forms of transportation. After this, it was to Iraq (where he later shot the opening scenes to ''The Exorcist'', 1973), filming for the Iraq Petroleum Company. At this time he owned his own Arriflex camera. David Watkin (cinematographer)
David Watkin BSC (23 March 1925 – 19 February 2008) was an English cinematographer, an innovator who was among the first directors of photography to experiment heavily with the usage of bounce light as a soft light source. He worked with such film directors as Richard Lester, Peter Brook, Tony Richardson, Mike Nichols, Ken Russell, Franco Zeffirelli, Sidney Lumet and Sydney Pollack. In 1985, Watkin won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for his work on '' Out of Africa''.
