Bordon
Bordon is a town in the East Hampshire district of Hampshire, England. It lies in the interior of the royal Woolmer Forest, about southeast of Alton. The town forms a part of the civil parish of Whitehill which is one of two contiguous villages, the other being Lindford. The civil parish is on the A325, and near the A3 road between London and Portsmouth, from which it is buffered by the rise of the wooded Woolmer Ranges. Bordon is twinned with Condé-sur-Vire in Normandy, France. Unlike its nearest towns, Petersfield, Farnham and Alton, Bordon has not been a market town, having developed as a military area. Many of the facilities are on or near the A325, a former toll road (turnpike) that connects Farnham to the A3 to its south. Bordon And Longmoor Military Camps
Bordon and Longmoor Military Camps are British Army training camps close to the A3 and A325 roads in and around the settlements of Bordon, Longmoor, Liss and Liphook in Hampshire, England. The main street of the Longmoor part of the camp is built on an ancient Roman road, the Chichester to Silchester Way, while the village of Greatham lies to the west. The combined camp and training area coveres of wooded areas, heath, wetlands and hard standings. Longmoor camp and the training areas are still active, and maintained by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation. History Early history In 1863, the War Department had required additional training grounds for British Army troops. They purchased tracts of land totalling from Her Majesty's Woods, Forests and Lands at Hogmoor Inclosure and Longmoor on the Surrey/Hampshire borders. Longmoor Military Railway
The Longmoor Military Railway (LMR) was a British military railway in Hampshire, built by the Royal Engineers from 1903 in order to train soldiers on railway construction and operations. The railway ceased operation on 31 October 1969. Route Authorised for construction from 1902, activities date from 1903 when an gauge tramway was laid to assist in removing 68 large corrugated iron huts from Longmoor Military Camp to Bordon. The railway was relaid to standard gauge in 1905–1907 and was initially known as the Woolmer Instructional Military Railway. It was renamed the ''Longmoor Military Railway'' in 1935. The Liss extension was opened in 1933. Whitehill, Hampshire
Whitehill is a village and civil parish in the East Hampshire district of Hampshire, England, on the historic highway (now the A325) between Petersfield and Farnham. It is south of Bordon and covers an area of approximately 8 square miles. The nearest railway station is Liss, south of the village. History Lying on the main road between Petersfield and Farnham, now the A325, there had been a hostelry, the ''Prince of Wales'', at what was to become Whitehill. With the development of Bordon and Longmoor Military Camps between 1899 and 1903, Whitehill, lying between the two, began to develop. Whitehill became a civil parish in 1928, having formerly been part of the parishes of Headley and Selborne. By 1931, the population of the civil parish was 4,661 in 631 households. Oakmoor School
Oakmoor School is a coeducational secondary school located in Bordon, Hampshire, England. It was founded in 1958 as Mill Chase County Secondary School. In 2007 the school gained specialist technology College status and was renamed Mill Chase Community Technology College. The school converted to academy status in November 2013 and was renamed Chase Hill Academy. Due to the expanding population of Bordon, in November 2019 the school relocated from Mill Chase Road to a new campus on Budds Lane and was renamed Oakmoor School. East Hampshire
East Hampshire is a local government district in Hampshire, England. Its council is based in Petersfield. Other towns are Alton and Bordon. The district was originally to be known as the District Council of Petersfield. It comprised 42 seats and first met on 18 June 1973. For ten months it operated alongside the councils that it was formed to replace: the Alton and Petersfield urban districts along with Alton Rural District and Petersfield Rural District. On 8 October 1973, the new council changed its name to the current East Hampshire District Council (or EHDC as it is usually known). On 1 April 1974, the old councils were dissolved, leaving only EHDC. Woolmer Forest
Woolmer Forest is a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south of Bordon in Hampshire and West Sussex. It is also a Special Area of Conservation and part of the Wealden Heaths Phase II Special Protection Area. Two areas are Nature Conservation Review sites, Grade I. It is part of the former royal hunting forest of Woolmer. It lies within the western Weald in the South Downs National Park, straddling the border between east Hampshire and West Sussex. Historically a largely treeless heathland on sterile sandy soils, the forest was traditionally managed, like other royal forests, as "wood pasture" in which deer would be kept for hunting by the aristocracy for sport and for venison, and where commoners were permitted to graze their livestock. The forest today consists of both dry and humid lowland heath. Lindford, Hampshire
Lindford is a village and civil parish in the East Hampshire district of Hampshire, England. It is approximately northeast of Bordon, and west of Headley, East Hampshire on the B3004 road. The nearest railway station is Liphook, southeast of the village. With a population of around 2,700, Lindford has a village shop, post office, private dental practice, hair dresser, as well as a Methodist church, a village hall, a pub, ''The Royal Exchange'', and a club.
