Biella
Biella (; pms, Biela; la, Bugella) is a city and ''comune'' in the northern Italian region of Piedmont, the capital of the province of the same name, with a population of 44,324 as of 31 December 2017. It is located about northeast of Turin and about west-northwest of Milan. It lies in the foothills of the Alps, in the Bo mountain range near Mt. Mucrone and Camino, an area rich in springs and lakes fed by the glaciers, the heart of the Biellese Alps irrigated by several mountain streams: the Elvo to the west of the town, the Oropa river and the Cervo to the east. Nearby natural and notable tourist attractions include the Zegna Viewpoint, the Bielmonte Ski Resort, Burcina Natural Reserve, and the moors to the south of town. The Sanctuary of Oropa is a site of religious pilgrimages. In 2003, the Sanctuary of Oropa Sacred Mountain of Oropa became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Cervo (torrent)
The Cervo (Piedmontese ''Sar'' or ''Serv'') is a torrent (a form of seasonally intermittent stream) in the Piedmont region of north-west Italy. It is the principal tributary of the river Sesia, which itself is a significant tributary of the Po. Etymology The name ''Cervo'' rather than from the Latin ''cervus'' (''deer'') should come from the Germanic ''saar'' (''stream'' or ''river''). Geography It crosses the provinces of Biella (communes of Piedicavallo, Rosazza, Campiglia Cervo, Sagliano Micca, Andorno Micca, Tollegno, Biella, Candelo and Castelletto Cervo) and Vercelli ( Quinto Vercellese). The Cervo’s source is the Lago della Vecchia (close to the '' Rifugio della Vecchia'') in the Biellese Prealps. Monte Mucrone
Monte Mucrone (or simply ''Mucrone)'' is an Alpine mountain of Piedmont (NW Italy). Geography The mountain belongs to the Biellese Alps, a sub-range of Pennine Alps; the ''Bocchetta del Lago'', a pass at 2,026 m, divides it from the rest of the chain. The Mucrone is located between Elvo and Cervo valleys, and belongs to the Province of Biella. Administratively its main summit is the tripoint at which the borders of the municipalities of Biella, Sordevolo and Pollone meet. It visually dominates the Sanctuary of Oropa. Oropa is a ''frazione'' of the municipality of Biella, in Piedmont, northern Italy. It is famous for the Black Virgin of Oropa. Her statue is located in the Sanctuary of Oropa, the basilica of the Sacro Monte di Oropa, one of the Sacri Monti. It is an important destination for local tourism and pilgrimage. The Elvo (Piedmontese: ''Elv'') is a torrent (an intermittent stream) in the Piedmont region of north-west Italy and is the principal tributary of the Cervo. It runs through the communes of Sordevolo, Occhieppo Superiore, Occhieppo Inferiore, Cerrione and Salussola in the Province of Biella, and of Carisio and Casanova Elvo in the Province of Vercelli. The river’s valley is named after it as the Valle dell'Elvo.
