Betton Strange
Betton Strange is a hamlet in the English county of Shropshire. It is only south of Shrewsbury town centre, situated in countryside just beyond the Shrewsbury bypass (the A5) and near the A458. It is located in the civil parish of Berrington, a village to the south. The hamlet lies at an elevation of between and . Further west is the large stone quarry at Sharpstone Hill.Ordnance Survey mapping Regional Cycle Route 32/33 runs through, on its way from Shrewsbury to Condover. The Shrewsbury to Bridgnorth railway line once ran to the east of the hamlet, but is now dismantled. The postcode is SY5. Arnold Lee "Arnie" Betton (July 28, 1929 – November 19, 2009) was an American track and field athlete, known primarily for the high jump. He was an American competitor at the 1952 Olympics, where he finished in seventh position. In the qualifying round, he had been tied as the leading qualifier. While jumping for Drake University, he had a personal best of , set the previous year. 2.05 was better than the winning jump of the Olympics by Walt Davis Walter Francis "Buddy" Davis (January 5, 1931 – November 17, 2020) was an American athlete.
