Barry Asher
Barry Asher (born July 14, 1946) was an American professional bowler on the PBA Tour (1966–76). Biography Asher, who is Jewish, was born in Los Angeles, California. His bowling average was 170 when he was 10 years old, 180 the next year, and over 200 at age 14. He attended Santa Ana High School and Santa Ana Junior College, and was an All-American in 1972–73. He won his first Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) title at the age of 19 in 1966. He averaged 247 on his way to winning the 1971 South Bend (Indiana) Open, setting a new PBA scoring record. In 1976, his final year on the tour, Asher became the 15th bowler to win 10 PBA titles. He also won four titles in the American Bowling Congress (ABC) national tournament. He was named Senior Bowler of the Year three times. He was the bowling technical advisor for the film ''The Big Lebowski'' (1998) and bowled in the final scene. Ten-pin Bowling
Ten-pin bowling is a type of bowling in which a bowler rolls a bowling ball down a wood or synthetic lane toward ten pins positioned evenly in four rows in an equilateral triangle. The objective is to knock down all ten pins on the first roll of the ball (a strike), or failing that, on the second roll (a spare). An approximately long ''approach'' area used by the bowler to impart speed and apply rotation to the ball ends in a ''foul line''. The , lane is bordered along its length by ''gutters'' (''channels'') that collect errant balls. The lane's long and narrow shape limits straight-line ball paths to angles that are smaller than optimum angles for achieving strikes; accordingly, bowlers impart side rotation to ''hook'' (curve) the ball into the pins to increase the likelihood of striking. PBA Tour
The PBA Tour is the major professional tour for ten-pin bowling, operated by the Professional Bowlers Association. Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, over 3,000 members worldwide make up the PBA. While most of the PBA members are Regional professionals, a small percentage of the bowling membership competes at the national and international level, forming the PBA Tour. Santa Ana Junior College
Santa Ana College is a public community college in Santa Ana, California. History In 1915, Santa Ana Junior College opened its doors to 25 students as a department of Santa Ana High School. It was the second community college founded in Orange County, behind Fullerton College, and the fourth oldest in all of California. In 1932, a charter of Gamma Sigma Fraternity International was granted. Beta Alpha Chapter was at the school from 1932 to 1938 but anti-fraternity agitation and lack of communication with the organization in the east made the chapter dormant by 1938. The Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) is the major sanctioning body for the sport of professional ten-pin bowling in the United States. Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, the PBA membership consists of over 3,000 members worldwide. The United States Bowling Congress (USBC) is a sports membership organization dedicated to ten-pin bowling in the United States.
