Development After Cheranovsky's first tailless flying wing gliders, the BICh-1 and BICh-2, he continued developing the concept with the BICh-3. The BICh-3 was built of wood with a parabolic wing having a straight trailing edge and a curved leading edge. The cockpit was faired into a large fin and rudder. The undercarriage consisted of a faired central mono-wheel with wing-tip skids. The BICh-3 was flown in Moscow in 1926. It was found to be unstable in initial tests leading to modifications that improved the handling sufficiently for it to be cleared as safe to fly. Blackburne Tomtit
The Blackburne Tomtit was a 670 cc V-twin aero engine for light aircraft that was designed and produced by Burney and Blackburne Limited. Burney and Blackburne was based at Bookham, Surrey, England and was a former motorcycle manufacturer. Design and development The Blackburne Tomtit engine was developed from Blackburne's motorcycle engines. The first one adapted to aircraft use was the best performing engine at the Lympne light aircraft trials of 1923, despite its lack of refinement. The Tomtit was a modified version of the Lympne 696 cc V-twin, marketed specifically for flight. The Tomtit could run upright or inverted and was the first British engine to fly inverted, in the ANEC I. The inverted configuration was more common, but the Avro 558 used it in the upright arrangement, and the Avro 560 flew with both upright and inverted Tomtits. is a town and municipality in Vestfold in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway—located along the Oslofjord. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Horten. The municipality also includes the town of Åsgårdstrand and the villages of Borre, Skoppum, and Nykirke. The town of Horten was separated from the municipality of Borre to become a municipality of its own in 1858. The neighboring municipalities of Borre and Horten were merged back together on 1 January 1988. Lippisch Delta I
The RRG Delta I was a German experimental tailless aircraft flown in the early 1930s first as a glider and then powered. It was one of the first delta wing aircraft. Design and development The first tailless aircraft that Alexander Lippisch saw was the Weltensegler glider (sailplane), glider, which flew briefly at the second Wasserkuppe, Rhön contest in 1921. He was impressed by its initial stability, though a turn led to an uncontrolled spiral dive followed by breakup and the death of its pilot. In response he built several models and also designed the full size but disappointing Espenlaub E 2. After some time designing more conventional types and becoming Technical Head of the Rhön-Rossitten Gesellschaft, RRG in 1925 he returned to the tailless glider layout. in 1927.
