Asuogyaman District
Asuogyaman District is one of the thirty-three districts in Eastern Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988, which it was created from the former Kaoga District Council. The district assembly is located in the eastern part of Eastern Region and has Atimpoku as its capital town. Akosombo Dam Asuogyaman District is the location of a hydroelectric dam in South Ghana, the Akosombo Dam, in the town of Akosombo. Additionally, the district has some very notable tourist sites apart from the Akosombo Dam, including Dodi Island, Akosombo Port and Dodi Princess that takes tourists on a cruise. The District has within its catchment areas some beautiful hotels such as Volta Hotel, Afrikiko River Resort, and The Royal Senchi. Districts Of Ghana
The Districts of Ghana are second-level administrative subdivisions of Ghana, below the level of region. There are 261 local metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (or MMDA's). History The districts of Ghana were re-organized in 1988/1989 in an attempt to decentralize the government and to assist in development. The reform of the late 1980s subdivided the regions of Ghana into 110 districts, where local district assemblies should deal with the local administration. By 2006, an additional 28 districts were created by splitting some of the original 110, bringing their number up to 138. In February 2008, there were more districts created and some were upgraded to municipal status. This brought the final number to 170 districts in Ghana. Spillway
A spillway is a structure used to provide the controlled release of water downstream from a dam or levee, typically into the riverbed of the dammed river itself. In the United Kingdom, they may be known as overflow channels. Spillways ensure that water does not damage parts of the structure not designed to convey water. Dodi Princess
''Dodi Princess'' was a cruise boat on Lake Volta in South Ghana. It was owned by the Volta River Authority and under the management of Volta Hotels. It was the only cruise ship in Ghana. It was built as a cargo ship and later converted into a passenger ship in 1991. The ship was replaced with the 176-passenger restaurant ship, ''Dodi Princess II'', built in Akosombo, Ghana by Onur Makina of Istanbul, Turkey. History The ship was built in 1977 at the Tema Shipyard and christened ''Grains Maid''. The vessel was used mainly for the transportation of dry cargo and agricultural products including fertilizer. Atimpoku
Atimpoku is a small town in the Eastern Region of Ghana and located along the Volta River. It is the capital of the Asuogyaman District, a district in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Geography The town of Atimpoku is located on the banks of the Volta River, which drains south to the Gulf of Guinea, and is the location of the Adomi Bridge (originally the Volta Bridge), Ghana's longest suspension bridge and the first permanent bridge to span the Volta River. The Regions of Ghana constitute the first level of subnational government administration within the Republic of Ghana.
