Arbois () is a commune in the Jura department, in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, eastern France. The river Cuisance passes through the town, which centres on an arcaded central square where one can sample the local wines. The commune has been awarded two flowers by the National Council of Towns and Villages in Bloom in the Competition of cities and villages in Bloom. Geography Arbois is located some 40 km southwest of Besançon and 30 km southeast of Dole. It has a typical ''Revermont'' landscape. The plain is mainly used for cropping of cereals on medium-sized plots of land. The lower slopes consist mainly of meadows surrounded by small hedges for dairy farming. There are some vineyards in the same area. The rest of the hills is occupied by small vineyards with a few scattered meadows. The top of the hills and the plateau are heavily forested. Mesnay
Mesnay () is a commune in the Jura department in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern France. Pupillin
Pupillin is a commune in the Jura department in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern France. Population Geography Pupillin is located in the hills above Arbois, and is famed locally for its extensive vineyards, where monks were already growing grapes 1,000 years ago. Its marl soils and steep slopes provide excellent growing conditions for the local Poulsard and Savagnin grape varieties, the latter of which produces the renowned local ''Vin Jaune'' or Yellow Wine. The village even boasts the title of Capital of Ploussard, adopting the spelling of the grape variety which is particular to this village. Montigny-lès-Arsures (, literally ''Montigny near Arsures'') is a commune in the Jura department in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern France. Geography Montigny is located in the heart of the Jura wine region, in the north-east of the Jura, on the Jura Wine Route and the Route Pasteur. The village also boasts the title of Capital of Trousseau, a local grape variety, since the village's limestone soils particularly suit these grapes' requirements. Salins-les-Bains (), commonly referred to simply as Salins, is a commune in the Jura department in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region in Eastern France. It is located on the departmental border with Doubs, 34.8 km (21.6 mi) to the south-southwest of Besançon. In 2018, Salins-les-Bains had a population of 2,567. The town owes its name to its saline waters which shaped its history for centuries; they continue to attract visitors today, for the town's bedrock contains salt and gypsum deposits. In 2009 the historic saltworks were added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites as an addition to the Royal Saltworks at Arc-et-Senans site, which was inscribed in 1982. Lons-le-Saunier
Lons-le-Saunier () is a commune and capital of the Jura Department, eastern France. Geography The town is in the heart of the Revermont region, at the foot of the first plateau of the Jura massif. The Jura escarpment extends to the east and south, while to the west lies the plain of Bresse and to the north extensive vineyards. The river Vallière runs through the town, rising in a typical Jura blind valley not far away, at Revigny. It has been conduited since the 1960s on grounds of hygiene, since sewage outlets run into it. A small section remains in the open air near the parc des Bains, and only a single bridge (the pont de la Guiche) remains. The town is approximately equally placed between Besançon, Dijon, Bourg-en-Bresse and Geneva, though the last of these lies on the other side of the Jura massif. Poligny, Jura
Poligny () is a commune in the Jura department in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern France. The town stands at the foot of the first plateau of the Jura region, with limestone cliffs rising to its east and south, and a steephead valley leading to the village of Vaux-sur-Poligny to the east. On the cliffs to the east is a notable cave, known as "Le Trou de la Lune" (the Moonhole); on the cliffs to the south is a large cross, the "Croix du Dan". A network of hiking trails surrounds the town and provide routes to both these viewpoints, and the GR 59 long distance footpath runs through the town.
