Andy Maloney
Andrew Maloney (born 2 June 1990) is a New Zealand professional sailor born on 2 June 1990. Sailing career From the Murrays Bay Sailing Club, he finished third in both the 2005 and 2006 World Championships in the Splash class. He finished 13th in the 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships in a Laser, he then finished third at the 2012 Laser World Championships. He also sailed for Oman Sail in the 2012 Extreme Sailing Series. At the 2013 America's Cup, Maloney was part of the New Zealand team that won the Youth America's Cup, sailing alongside Peter Burling, Blair Tuke and Guy Endean. He attempted to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics in the Laser class, but missed out on a spot in the New Zealand Olympic team to eventual bronze medallist, Sam Meech. His sister, Alex Maloney, is a professional sailor who won Silver at the 2016 Summer Olympics in a 49erFX with Sam Meech's sister, Molly. Maloney joined Team New Zealand in November 2016. Finn (dinghy)
The Finn dinghy is a single-handed, cat-rigged sailboat, and a former Olympic class for men's sailing. Since its debut at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, the Finn has featured in every summer Olympics, making it the longest serving dinghy in the Olympic Regatta and one of the most prolific Olympic sailboats, currently filling the slot for the Heavyweight Dinghy. The Finn is a physically demanding boat to race at the highest levels, especially since the class rules now allow unlimited boat rocking and sail pumping when the wind is above 10 knots. The event will not feature on the Olympic programme from 2024. Design The Finn was designed by Swedish canoe designer, Rickard Sarby, in 1949 for the Helsinki Olympics. in 1952 the hulls were built of timber and the sails were of cotton. Team New Zealand or TNZ is a sailing team based in Auckland, New Zealand representing the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Team New Zealand became a household name in their home country following their consecutive wins in the America's Cup in 1995 and 2000, under the leadership of Sir Peter Blake, when becoming the first team from a country outside the United States to win and successfully defend the America's Cup.
