Andenne
Andenne (; wa, Andene) is a city and municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Namur, Belgium. On January 1, 2006, Andenne had a total population of 25,240. The total area is 86.17 km² which gives a population density of 292 inhabitants per km². The municipality, and the central city, extend on both sides of the river Meuse. The municipality consists of the following districts: Andenne, Bonneville, Coutisse, Landenne, Maizeret, Namêche, Sclayn, Seilles, Thon-Samson, and Vezin. History The city is symbolized by a bear, originating from the legend that saw Charles Martel, while still a child, use a hammer to kill a bear that terrorized the inhabitants. Andenne is the location of the Château du Moisnil. Andenne is associated with the Rape of Belgium in 1914, during which between 211 and 225 townspeople were massacred. Begga
Saint Begga (also Begue, Begge) (b. 613 – d. 17 December 693 AD) was the daughter of Pepin of Landen, mayor of the palace of Austrasia, and his wife Itta of Metz. She is also the grandmother of Charles Martel, who is the grandfather of Charlemagne. Life The daughter of Pepin of Landen and his wife, Itta, Begga was the older sister of St Gertrude of Nivelles. She married Ansegisel, son of Arnulf, Bishop of Metz, and had three children: Pepin of Heristal, Martin of Laon, and Clotilda of Heristal, who married Theuderic III of the Franks. Ansegisel was killed sometime before 679, slain in a feud by his enemy Gundewin. Sclayn
Sclayn ( wa, Scleyin) is a town of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Andenne, located in the province of Namur, Belgium. It is located by the river Meuse. Sclayn developed around the collegiate church dedicated to Saint Maurice. The church was founded by monks from Kornelimünster Abbey around 1072, and a college of canons was founded here by Emperor Henry IV in 1106. Château Du Moisnil
The Château du Moisnil is a château or manor house of Wallonia, located in the village of Maizeret, municipality of Andenne, province of Namur, Belgium. The Château today The only remaining wing was built in addition to the previous constructions in 1902 by architect Octave Flanneau (1860-1937) in Louis XV style with a mansard roof, for Jules van Dievoet, lawyer at the Belgian Supreme Court, and his wife Marguerite Anspach. History Ancien Régime The whole fief counted about 100 ha for Maizeret and about 160 ha for Moinil. The Moinil lot consisted in 1314, of a "tower" and a house, which would become the nucleus of the future castle. "Fats" Sadi Pol Lallemand (23 October 1927, Andenne, Belgium – 20 February 2009, Huy) was a Belgian jazz musician, vocalist, and composer who played vibraphone and percussion. He chose the name "Sadi" because he disliked his last name, which means "the German" in French. He led a quartet and nonet and won the Belgian Golden Django for best French-speaking artist in 1996. Career His first instrument was xylophone, which he played in a circus in the 1930s. After World War II, he turned professional playing the vibraphonist. He performed with Bobby Jaspar in the Bob Shots, then with Don Byas. From 1950 to 1961, he lived in Paris, where he played with Aimé Barelli, Django Reinhardt, and Martial Solal.
