Amaliada
Amaliada ( el, Αμαλιάδα, Katharevousa: Ἀμαλιάς, ''Amaliás'') is a town and a former Communities and Municipalities of Greece, municipality in northwestern Elis (regional unit), Elis, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Ilida (municipality), Ilida, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 251.945 km2. In 2011, the municipal unit had 28,520 inhabitants, of whom 16,763 lived in the town of Amaliada. It is near the archaeological site of Elis (city), Elis, the city-state whose territory was the site of the ancient Olympic Games. It is situated in the plains of Elis, 6 km from the Ionian Sea. It is 10 km southeast of Gastouni, 16 km northwest of Pyrgos, Elis, Pyrgos and 60 km southwest of Patras. Elis (regional Unit)
Elis or Ilia ( el, Ηλεία, ''Ileia'') is a historic region in the western part of the Peloponnese peninsula of Greece. It is administered as a regional unit of the modern region of Western Greece. Its capital is Pyrgos. Until 2011 it was Elis Prefecture, covering the same territory. The modern regional unit is nearly coterminous with the ancient Elis of the classical period. Here lie the ancient ruins of cities of Elis, Epitalion and Olympia, known for the ancient Olympic Games which started in 776 BC. Geography The northernmost point of Elis is 38° 06'N, the westernmost is 22° 12′E, the southernmost is 37° 18′N, and the easternmost is 21° 54′E. Kentro, Elis
Kentro () is a village and a community of the Ilida municipality. Before the 2011 local government reform it was a part of the municipality of Amaliada, of which it was a municipal district. Geography It is situated on the west shore of the dam Pineios. The reservoir was created in the 1960s. Kentro is 2 km northwest of Agios Ilias, 3 km east of Agios Dimitrios, 3 km south of Borsi and 14 km northeast of Amaliada. The community of Kentro covers an area of 3.65 km2. Historical population According to the 2011 census, the population of Itea was 462 people, a decrease of almost 4% compared to the previous census of 2001. Kardamas
Kardamas ( el, Καρδαμάς) is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Amaliada, in Elis, Greece. It is located in the plains near the Ionian Sea, 3 km north of Douneika, 3 km southwest of Amaliada and 14 km northwest of Pyrgos. The community includes the small village Petroules. Geraki, Elis
Geraki ( el, Γεράκι) is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Amaliada, Elis, Greece. It is situated in low hills, 4 km east of Amaliada, 7 km northwest of Vounargo and about 14 km northwest of Pyrgos. In 2001 Geraki had a population of 501 for the village and 614 for the community, which includes the small village Analipsi. Population History The first settlements in Geraki date from the middle of the 19th century, and the original inhabitants came from the Mani Peninsula in southern Peloponnese. During the Second World War, Geraki was burned down by the Germans occupiers (in 1943) because it harboured a strong movement of resistance to the occupation. Only the school and the Orthodox church were saved from the fire. In the main square of the village can be found a monument to Dimitris Tsamis, who in 1943 helped to save the lives of 80 inhabitants of Geraki by refusing to denounce them to the occupiers. Douneika ( el, Δουναίικα, also: Δουνέικα - Dounika) is a village and a community in the southern part of the municipal unit of Amaliada in Elis, Greece. It is situated near the Ionian Sea coast, 3 km south of Kardamas, 4 km northwest of Myrtia, 4 km west of Alpochori and 6 km south of Amaliada.
