Almaty
Almaty (; kk, Алматы; ), formerly known as Alma-Ata ( kk, Алма-Ата), is the largest city in Kazakhstan, with a population of about 2 million. It was the capital of Kazakhstan from 1929 to 1936 as an autonomous republic as part of the Soviet Union, then from 1936 to 1991 as a union republic and finally from 1991 as an independent state to 1997 when the government relocated the capital to Akmola (renamed Astana in 1998, Nur-Sultan in 2019, and back to Astana in 2022). Almaty is still the major commercial, financial, and cultural centre of Kazakhstan, as well as its most populous and most cosmopolitan city. The city is located in the mountainous area of southern Kazakhstan near the border with Kyrgyzstan in the foothills of the Trans-Ili Alatau at an elevation of 700–900 m (2,300–3,000 feet), where the Large and Small Almatinka rivers run into the plain.

The Almaty City Mäslihat ( kk, Алматы қаласы мәслихаты, Almaty qalasy mäslihaty) is a local unicameral legislative branch in the city of Almaty. It is led by current Secretary Stanislav Kankurov ( Amanat). Composition Mäslihat members are generally up for re-election every 5 years and are elected on the basis of party-list proportional representation with a required 7% electoral threshold to win any seats in the legislature. If only one parties manages to bypass the electoral threshold, then the party win the second highest number of votes is granted enough seats for representation in the mäslihat regardless whether it had passed the threshold or not. Panfilov Street Esplanade
Panfilov Street Promenade is a promenade located in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The Abay Opera House, where the promenade starts, and KBTU Building are located within it, which was redesigned by Danish urban designer Jan Gehl. The promenade ends in Arbat. History The Almaty City Maslihat was responsible for the large-scale reconstruction of the Almaty's historical city center. The renovation on Panfilov Street took place from the State Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet to Abay Opera House. Astana
Astana, previously known as Akmolinsk, Tselinograd, Akmola, and most recently Nur-Sultan, is the capital city of Kazakhstan. The city lies on the banks of the Ishim River in the north-central part of Kazakhstan, within the Akmola Region, though administered as a city with special status separately from the rest of the region. Kok Tobe
Kok Tobe ( kk, Көктөбе ''Kök Töbe'' - "Blue Hill"; russian: Кок-Тюбе, ''Kok-Tyube'') is a mountain in Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest city. Kók Tóbe Park, a popular recreation area, is on top of the mountain. The mountain's height is 1100 meters above sea level. KBTU Building
The KBTU Building is a building in Almaty that is located in the Astana Square. Constructed in 1957, it is one of the most historic and iconic buildings in the city. History The building was originally intended to serve the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR. The construction of it began in 1938 at the cost of 14 million rubles, but by 1941, only excavations were dug on the spot. During World War II, construction was suspended, it was resumed in 1951 and completed in 1957. The building was designed in the workshop of Mosproject under the direction of architect Boris Rubanenko. The drafts were carried out by Kazgorstroyproekt under the direction of P.A. Mamontov, G.A. Ile Alatau ( kk, Ile Alatauy, ''Іле Алатауы''), also spelt as Trans-Ili Alatau, is a part of the Northern Tian Shan mountain system (ancient Mount Imeon) in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
