Alleuze
Alleuze (; oc, Alueisa) is a commune in the Cantal department in the Auvergne region of south-central France. Geography Alleuze is located some 7 km due south of Saint-Flour on the edge of the Planèze plateau. Access to the commune is by a number of minor roads including the D48 from Lavastrie in the west changing to the D40 in the commune then passing north through a circuitous route in the heart of the commune to the village and continuing north-west to the hamlet of Barry before continuing north to Saint-Flour. There is also the D116 from the village to the north-west. The eastern and north-eastern borders of the commune consist of the lake formed by the Barrage of Grandval which was formed from the Truyère river. Apart from the village there are also the hamlets of Barry and Vedrines. Much of the commune is farmland but with considerable forests next to the lake and in the south. Château D'Alleuze
The Château d'Alleuze is a ruined castle situated in the commune of Alleuze, in the Cantal ''département'' of France. Built in the 13th century by the constables of Auvergne, it belonged to the bishops of Clermont. During the Hundred Years War it was seized for the English by Bernard de Garlan. For seven years, he sowed terror throughout the region, pillaging and holding to ransom. To avoid troubles from any Garlan successors, the inhabitants of Saint-Flour burned down the castle in 1405. Monseigneur De la Tour, owner of the castle, was very upset with this gesture, and obliged the Sanflorains to rebuild it on the original plan. It was taken by Huguenots in 1575. The towers were used as jails by the bishops of Clermont. The castle is built on a square plan, with round towers in each corner, characteristic of the 14th century. Truyère
The Truyère () is a river in south-western France, right tributary of the Lot. Its source is in the south-western Massif Central, north of Mende.
