Alfréd Rényi Institute Of Mathematics
The Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics ( hu, Rényi Alfréd Matematikai Kutatóintézet) is the research institute in mathematics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. It was created in 1950 by Alfréd Rényi, who directed it until his death. Since its creation, the institute has been the center of mathematical research in Hungary. It received the title ''Centre of Excellence of the European Union'' (2001). The current director is András Stipsicz. The institute publishes the research journal Studia Scientiarum Mathematicarum Hungarica. Mathematics
Mathematics is an area of knowledge that includes the topics of numbers, formulas and related structures, shapes and the spaces in which they are contained, and quantities and their changes. These topics are represented in modern mathematics with the major subdisciplines of number theory, algebra, geometry, and analysis, respectively. Zoltán Füredi
Zoltán Füredi (Budapest, Hungary, 21 May 1954) is a Hungarian mathematician, working in combinatorics, mainly in discrete geometry and extremal combinatorics. He was a student of Gyula O. H. Katona. He is a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (2004). He is a research professor of the Rényi Mathematical Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and a professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Füredi received his Candidate of Sciences degree in mathematics in 1981 from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Miklós Simonovits
Miklós Simonovits (4 September 1943 in Budapest) is a Hungarian mathematician who currently works at the Rényi Institute of Mathematics in Budapest and is a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He is on the advisory board of the journal ''Combinatorica''. He is best known for his work in extremal graph theory and was awarded Széchenyi Prize in 2014. Among other things, he discovered the method of progressive induction which he used to describe graphs which do not contain a predetermined graph and the number of edges is close to maximal. With Lovász, he gave a randomized algorithm using ''O''(''n''7 log2 ''n'') separation calls to approximate the volume of a convex body within a fixed relative error. László Pyber
''László Pyber'' (born 8 May 1960 in Budapest) is a Hungarian mathematician. He is a researcher at the Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics, Budapest. He works in combinatorics and group theory. Biography Pyber received his Ph.D. from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1989 under the direction of László Lovász and Gyula O.H. Lajos Pósa (mathematician)
Lajos Pósa (born December 9, 1947 in Budapest) is a Hungarian mathematician working in the topic of combinatorics, and one of the most prominent mathematics educators of Hungary, best known for his mathematics camps for gifted students. He is a winner of the Széchenyi Prize. Paul Erdős's favorite "child", he discovered theorems at the age of 16. Péter Pál Pálfy
Péter Pál Pálfy (Debrecen, 23 August 1955) is a Hungarian mathematician, working in algebra, more precisely in group theory and universal algebra. Between 2006 and 2018 he served as the director of the Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics. Career Pálfy graduated from Eötvös University, Budapest in 1978 and started working at the Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics. He was deputy director of the Institute from 1991 to 1997. From 2000 to 2005 he had a full-time professorship at Eötvös University. Katalin Marton (9 December 1941 – 13 December 2019) was a Hungarian mathematician, born in Budapest. Education and career Marton obtained her PhD from Eötvös Loránd University in 1965 and worked at the Department of Numerical Mathematics, Central Research Institute for Physics, Budapest from 1965 to 1973.
