Alexander Rumyantsev (nobleman)
Count Alexander Ivanovich Rumyantsev (russian: Александр Иванович Румянцев) (1677–1749) was an assistant of Peter the Great and father of Field Marshal Peter Rumyantsev-Zadunaisky. He came from the Rumyantsev family which, though little known and documented in the 17th century, later claimed descent from a prominent 14th-century boyar. Alexander enrolled in the Preobrazhensky regiment of guards in 1704. While he guarded the headquarters of Peter the Great, the monarch noticed him "for his great height and smart face". Peter made Alexander Ivanovich his servant and later recommended him to Peter Shafirov and Peter Tolstoy. In the service of these two courtiers, Rumyantsev led a mission to capture hetman Pavlo Polubotok and carried out various diplomatic errands in Constantinople and in Persia. Alexander Yuryevich Rumyantsev (russian: Александр Юрьевич Румянцев), born July 26, 1945 in Kushka, Turkmen SSR is a Russian scientist, academician, minister, and ambassador. Career Since graduating MEPhI 1969, worked in Kurchatov Institute researching nuclear physics. In 1994 was appointed as the director of the Kurchatov Institute. In 1996 was elected as the corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and since 2000 is the academician. In 2001 was appointed as the Minister of the Atomic Energy of the Russian Federation, in the cabinet of the Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov. During his tenure the Megatons to Megawatts agreement was renegotiated in 2002. Following the dismissal of the whole cabinet in February 2004 by the President Putin, the Ministry was reorganized into a Federal Agency on Atomic Energy where Alexander Rumyantsev was appointed as the CEO. Alexander Rumyantsev (russian: Александр Григорьевич Румянцев; born February 12, 1947, Novogeorgievsk, Kirovohrad Oblast) is a world-known pediatric hematologist, professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and a deputy of the 8th State Duma. In 1984, he was granted a Doctor of Sciences in Medicine degree. In 1971, Rumyantsev started working as a clinical resident doctor. From 1976 to 1984, he was an assistant at the department of pediatrics. In 1986–1987, he was a professor at the department of children diseases. In 1986–1987, Rumyantsev participated in expedition trips to the affected regions of the USSR to eliminate the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster. From 2004 to 2010, Rumyantsev headed the Department of Hematology/Oncology and Immunology.
