Adam Keefe Horovitz (born October 31, 1966), popularly known as Ad-Rock, is an American rapper, guitarist and actor. He was a member of the hip-hop group Beastie Boys. While Beastie Boys were active, Horovitz performed with a side project, BS 2000. After the group disbanded in 2012 following the death of member Adam Yauch, Horovitz has participated in a number of Beastie Boys-related projects, worked as a remixer, producer, and guest musician for other artists, and has acted in a number of films. Early life and education Horovitz was born and raised on Park Avenue, Manhattan, New York, the son of Doris (''née'' Keefe) and playwright Israel Horovitz. Beastie Boys
Beastie Boys were an American rap rock group from New York City, formed in 1978. The group was composed of Michael "Mike D" Diamond (vocals, drums), Adam "MCA" Yauch (vocals, bass), and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz (vocals, guitar, programming). Beastie Boys were formed out of members of experimental hardcore punk band the Young Aborigines in 1978, with Diamond as vocalist, Jeremy Shatan on bass guitar, John Berry on guitar, and Kate Schellenbach on drums. When Shatan left in 1981, Yauch replaced him on bass and the band changed their name to Beastie Boys. Berry left shortly thereafter and was replaced by Horovitz. Dead Fucking Last (also known as DFL) is an American punk rock band that was founded in 1991 in Los Angeles, California by Tom Davis, Monty Messex, Adam (Ad-Rock) Horovitz and Tony Converse. History Grand Royal Records DFL was founded in 1991 by Tom "Crazy Tom" Davis, Monty "Monte" Messex, Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz and Tony Converse. Michael "Mike D" Diamond, played drums briefly in DFL’s earliest incarnation. DFL’s first release ''My Crazy Life'' was recorded at the Beastie Boys' G-Son Studios in Atwater Village on April 22, 1993. Israel Horovitz (March 31, 1939 – November 9, 2020) was an American playwright, director, actor and co-founder of the Gloucester Stage Company in 1979. BS 2000 (also known as Beat Science 2000) was an American rock music, rock and hip hop music, hip hop group formed by Ad-Rock, Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz (member of Beastie Boys) and Amery Smith, Amery "AWOL" Smith (drummer for Suicidal Tendencies and touring drummer for Beastie Boys) featuring Janay North. Rachael Horovitz (born 1962) is an American film producer. She is known for producing the film ''Moneyball'', and the TV series '' Patrick Melrose''. Early life Horovitz is the daughter of playwright Israel Horovitz and the late painter Doris (née Keefe), and the sister of the musician Adam Horovitz. Her father is Jewish, whereas her mother, who was of Irish descent, was Catholic. The Young and the Useless were an American punk band, formed in the early 1980s that consisted of Adam Trese, Arthur Africano, David Scilken and future Beastie Boys member Adam Horovitz. They were managed by former Beastie Boys manager Nick Cooper. Their first recording ''Real Men Don't Floss'' was released by Ratcage Records. It is rumoured that they recorded a second album, but it was never released and its whereabouts is unknown.
