Mount Abu
Mount Abu () is a hill station in the Aravalli Range in Sirohi district of the state of Rajasthan in western India.The mountain forms a rocky plateau 22 km long by 9 km wide. The highest peak on the mountain is Guru Shikhar at above sea level. It is referred to as 'an oasis in the desert' as its heights are home to rivers, lakes, waterfalls and evergreen forests. The nearest train station is Abu Road railway station 28 km away. History The ancient name of Mount Abu is Arbuda. In the Puranas, the region has been referred to as ''Arbudaranya'' ("forest of ''Arbhuda''") and 'Abu' is a diminutive of this ancient name. Abdul-Malik Abu (born September 16, 1995), is a Nigerian American professional basketball player for Hapoel Galil Elyon of the Israeli Premier League. High school career Abu first attended Marblehead High School in Marblehead, Massachusetts before transferred to Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, New Hampshire to play for coach Mike Olson. Abu was a Mesopotamian god. His character is poorly understood, though it is assumed he might have been associated with vegetation and with snakes. He was often paired with the deity ''Gu2-la2'', initially regarded as distinct from Gula, but later conflated with her. Name and character The reading of the second sign in the name ''Ab-u2'' is uncertain, and in addition to Abu, the second proposed reading of the name is Abba. According to Jeremiah Peterson, the former option is supported by the partial etymology assigned to this theonym in the myth ''Enki and Ninmah'', ''lugal u2'', "lord of the plants." It might be either an example of scribal wordplay or an invented scholarly etymology for his name. Abu Baker Asvat () (23 February 1943 – 27 January 1989), also known as Abu Asvat or Abu nicknamed ''Hurley'' was a South African medical doctor who practised in Soweto in the 1970s and 1980s. A founding member of Azapo, Asvat was the head of its health secretariat, and involved in initiatives aimed at improving the health of rural black South Africans during Apartheid. In 1989, Asvat was shot dead in his clinic, and he died in the arms of his nurse, Albertina Sisulu. Abu (volcano)
is the name of a group of shield volcanoes located on the coast of Japan on the southwest end of the island of Honshū. It is primarily based in the city of Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The group dates from 800,000 years ago and was active into the Holocene era. The last eruption occurred around 9000 years ago. The group of volcanoes consists of basalt and dacitic lava flows, small shield volcanoes, cinder cones, and lava domes. Altogether, there are about 40 volcanoes, with the highest peak being Irao-yama. Volcanic activity in the region i related to subduction of the Philippine Sea Plate. The erupted magmas of Abu are mainly alkaline basalt and calc-alkaline andesite - dacite in composition.
