The company operates three other offshoot brands: Abercrombie Kids, Hollister Co., and Gilly Hicks. As of February 2020, the company operated 854 stores across all brands. According to then-Chairman Arthur Martinez (in 2016), these changes were implemented to show that the company is evolving with its consumers. History The original Abercrombie & Fitch was founded in 1892 in New York City by David T. Abercrombie as an outfitter for the elite outdoorsman. Ezra Fitch—a wealthy lawyer, real estate developer, and devoted Abercrombie customer—bought a significant stake in the business in 1900. In ...

Fort Abercrombie
Fort Abercrombie, in North Dakota, was an American fort established by authority of an act of Congress, March 3, 1857. The act allocated twenty-five square miles of land on the Red River of the North in Dakota Territory to be used for a military outpost, but the exact location was left to the discretion of Lieutenant Colonel John J. Abercrombie. The fort was constructed in the year 1858. It was the first permanent military settlement in what became North Dakota, and is thus known as "The Gateway to the Dakotas". History Because the original location was prone to flooding, a new fort was built at a higher location in 1860, north of the original location. It was besieged by the Dakota (Sioux) Indians for more than six weeks during the Dakota War of 1862. The fort was abandoned in 1877 and the town of Abercrombie, North Dakota, was founded a half mile west in 1884. Abercrombie Township was settled, in part, due to the early presence of the fort. The fort served as a transporta ...

Abercrombie, Fife
Abercrombie ( Gaelic: ''Obar Chrombaidh'') is a village in Fife , Scotland. Abercrombie, recorded in 1157-60 as ''Abercrumbin'', means 'mouth of the river Crombie'. The first element is the Pictish word ''aber'' 'river mouth'. Crombie is a stream-name derived from the Gaelic word ''crombadh'' 'bending, winding'. This Gaelic stream-name probably replaced an earlier Pictish name. The only stream near here entering the sea is the Inverie Burn, also known as St. Monan's Burn, which discharges at St. Monan's. We might suppose that Crombadh was an earlier name for the burn. Abercrombie is situated north of the village of St Monans, and miles south of the town of St Andrews. Abercrombie was the former name of the parish of St Monans, although both Abercrombie and St Monans had churches. The hamlet is centred on Abercrombie Farmstead, dating from 1892, which was built on the site of an earlier 13th century building. The land around Abercrombie was formerly owned by the Sandilands f ...

Abercrombie-class Monitor
The ''Abercrombie'' class of monitors served in the Royal Navy during the First World War. History The four ships in this class came about when the contracted supplier of the main armament for the Greek battleship being built in Germany was unable to supply due to the British blockade. The company – Bethlehem Steel in the United States – instead offered to sell the four twin gun turrets to the Royal Navy on 3 November 1914. The Royal Navy was using obsolete pre-dreadnought battleships for shore bombardment in support of the army in Belgium, and a design for a shallow-draught warship (known as "Monitors") suitable for shore-bombardment was quickly designed and built to use these turrets. The ships were laid down and launched within six months. The ships carried a single main gun turret forward of a tripod mast, which was itself in front of a single funnel. A secondary armament of two 12-pounder (76 mm) guns was fitted, with a single 3-pounder (47 mm) an ...
