Aavikko
Aavikko is a Finnish synth music band, formed in Siilinjärvi in 1995. Their hallmarks include a campy, decidedly "East European" style and plastic-sounding synthesizer themes. The band themselves call their style "''muysic''" (a portmanteau of "''mystic''" and "''music''"); their motto is "''We play - you dance!''". One of their most famous songs is "Viitostie", which is strongly influenced by Kraftwerk (the name is a reference to "Autobahn": "Viitostie" is a highway in Finland that passes through Siilinjärvi). Bad Vugum
Bad Vugum is an independent record label originally based in Oulu, Finland. It was founded in 1987 by some of the members of the hardcore punk groups Kansanturvamusiikkikomissio and Radiopuhelimet for releasing the latter's music. The label's name comes from an epithet invented by Captain Beefheart, heard uttered during his song "Sue Egypt". By the early 1990s it had grown into one of Finland's relatively higher-profile indie labels, with releases frequently getting positive reviews in American music fanzines such as Forced Exposure and Flipside. Many releases were also championed by the BBC radio DJ John Peel, who went on to invite such Bad Vugum bands as Deep Turtle, Circle and Aavikko to record Peel Sessions for his radio show as the first ever Finnish acts to do so. John Peel also invited Mieskuoro Huutajat to perform at the Meltdown Festival when he curated it in 1998. Circle (band)
Circle is a Finnish experimental rock band formed in Pori in 1991. Their eclectic, ever-changing style has been associated with genres such as krautrock, heavy metal, progressive rock, and ambient. On some albums they have defined themselves as New Wave of Finnish Heavy Metal (NWOFHM). Biography Circle was formed in 1992 by bassist and singer Jussi Lehtisalo, the only member who has been in the band throughout its career. Circle's krautrock-style debut album '' Meronia'' was released in 1994 and featured lyrics in a made-up language. A trio of albums, ''Andexelt'' (1999), ''Prospekt'' (2000), and ''Taantumus'' (2001), brought them international attention. Since recording 2002's ''Sunrise'', the core line-up has consisted of Lehtisalo with keyboard player and singer Mika Rättö, drummer Tomi Leppänen, and guitarist Janne Westerlund, playing more heavy metal-oriented music though continuously influenced by krautrock band Faust. K-X-P is an electronic rock band from Helsinki, Finland. The band consists of Timo Kaukolampi (vocals, electronics and guitar), Tomi Leppänen (drums), Anssi Nykänen (drums), and Tuomo Puranen (bass). Felix Kubin
Felix Kubin (born Felix Knoth; 1969 in Hamburg), is an electronic musician, composer, curator, sound and radio artist. He runs the record label Gagarin Records. Life Kubin began his musical career at the age of eight with piano and electronic organ. From 1992 to 1996 he attended the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften), where he studied drawing, sound installation, video and animation film. In 1995, he received a DAAD grant and spent a year at the Media Art Department of the ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Enschede, Netherlands. At the age of twelve, in 1981, he started recording his first pieces with synthesizer, organ, voice and drum machine. Two years later he began experimenting with a 4-track tape recorder. Siilinjärvi
Siilinjärvi () is a municipality of Finland. It is located in Northern Savonia, north of the city of Kuopio, which largely surrounds Siilinjärvi. Another neighbour municipality with Kuopio is Lapinlahti. The name, in Finnish, apparently translates literally as "Hedgehog's Lake", although its etymology actually stems from a Sámi word meaning winter dwelling. Lakes are essential part of the geography of Siilinjärvi. There are 123 lakes, and the biggest of them are Kallavesi and Juurusvesi–Akonvesi. Water area is 106.85 km2, which is 21% of the whole area of Siilinjärvi. The median age is relatively low; 23% of the population are under 15 years old. Camp (style)
Camp is an aesthetic style and sensibility that regards something as appealing because of its bad taste and ironic value. Kraftwerk
Kraftwerk (, "power station") is a German band formed in Düsseldorf in 1970 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider. Autobahn (album)
''Autobahn'' is the fourth studio album by German electronic music band Kraftwerk, released in November 1974 by Philips Records. The album marked several personnel changes in the band, which was initially a duo consisting of Florian Schneider and Ralf Hütter; later, the group added Klaus Röder on guitar and flute, and Wolfgang Flür on percussion. The album also completed the group's transition from the experimental krautrock style of their earlier work to an electronic pop sound consisting mostly of synthesizers and drum machines. Recording started at the group's own Kling Klang facility, but was predominantly made at Conny Plank's studio. Pharaoh Overlord
Pharaoh Overlord is an experimental rock (music), rock music band, initially featuring three members of the Finnish group Circle (band), Circle, Jussi Lehtisalo, Janne Westerlund and Tomi Leppänen. Originally begun as a vehicle to indulge their love of stoner rock, Pharaoh Overlord's output has become more varied, mirroring the development of their sister group. Their 2007 album ''Live In Suomi Finland'' features contributions from krautrock pioneer Hans Joachim Irmler. Julius Jääskeläinen and Pekka Jääskeläinen also appear on that recording, and have played regularly with the band since both in performance and in the studio.
