A Silent Love
''A Silent Love'' ( es, Un amor silencioso) is a 2004 Canadian (Quebec) film written and directed by Federico Hidalgo and produced by Atopia. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2004 then opened in a limited release on October 29, 2004 in New York City and Los Angeles before widening to over 25 theaters across the US and Canada. ''A Silent Love'' is the first Canadian release made by Atopia, although it was shortly followed by another Hidalgo film, Imitation. The film is quasi-silent but when dialogue is used, it is substantially Spanish despite the film's Canadian production. Synopsis The protagonist, Norman Green, is a middle-aged film studies professor in Montreal. In an attempt to form a meaningful relationship, Norman joins an online dating website which allows him to woo a young Mexican woman with a passionate email. He then travels to Mexico to meet her. Federico Hidalgo
Federico Hidalgo is a filmmaker, film director and film professor in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He has directed five feature-length, fiction films to date: '' A Silent Love'' (2004), ''Imitation'' (2006), ''The Skeptic (L'Incrédule)'' (2012), ''Le Concierge'' (2014) and ''The Great Traveller'' (2019), as well as a feature-length documentary, ''New Tricks'' (2009). All five of these films were produced by Atopia (film studio). ''A Silent Love'', co-written with his wife Paulina Robles, was nominated for a Genie Award for best original screenplay and was accepted to the Sundance Film Festival. It also won the Best Screenplay Award at 2004 Brooklyn International Film Festival. Carmen Salinas Lozano (5 October 1939 – 9 December 2021) was a Mexican actress, impressionist, comedian, politician, and theatre entrepreneur. She was associated with the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) during her later career as a politician. She appeared in 115 films, 70 theater works, 23 telenovelas, and 9 television series.
