South Korea
South Korea, officially the Republic of Korea (ROK), is a country in East Asia, constituting the southern part of the Korean Peninsula and sharing a land border with North Korea. Its western border is formed by the Yellow Sea, while its eastern border is defined by the Sea of Japan. South Korea claims to be the sole legitimate government of the entire peninsula and adjacent islands. It has a population of 51.75 million, of which roughly half live in the Seoul Capital Area, the fourth most populous metropolitan area in the world. MBC Gayo Daejejeon
The ''MBC Gayo Daejejeon'' () is an annual, end-of-the-year South Korean music show broadcast by the Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC). The event was first held in 1966 as a singing competition, but MBC stopped giving out awards in 2005. History The event was first held in 1966 as the ''MBC Ten Singers Match'' (Hangul: MBC 10대 가수 청백전). It was a competition among ten singers, with the winner being awarded the "King of Ten Singers." It was broadcast live on MBC radio from the Seoul Citizens Hall. The event was broadcast on television starting in 1970. In 1972, the Seoul Citizens Hall caught on fire at the end of that year's ''MBC Ten Singers Match.'' About 1,500 people were still inside the venue as the fire spread. Ultimately, 53 people were killed by the fire, and several of the singers in attendance that night were injured. Chocolat (group)
Chocolat (Hangul: 쇼콜라, ''Syokolla''), commonly stylized as ChoColat, was a South Korean girl group created by Paramount Music in 2011. The group's name stems from the idea that each member is reminiscent of a different type of chocolate. The name of the group was initially going to be "Chocolate", but there was already a group with that name, so Paramount Music decided to use the French word ''chocolat'' instead. The group consists of total of five of former members: Jaeyoon, Min Soa, Juliane, Tia and Melanie, The group became inactive in 2013. Melanie confirmed in an interview that the group members' contracts had concluded in February 2017 and the group had disbanded. C-REAL
C-REAL () was a five-member South Korean girl group formed by NAP Entertainment in 2011. They debuted with their song ''No No No No No'' on October 12, 2011. Their group name was taken from the first letter of each member's name. They are dubbed as the "5-IU Idols" because they are produced by Choi Kab Won, who also produced IU. History 2011: Debut with ''Round 1'' C-REAL released their debut EP, ''Round 1'', with the title track "No No No No No" produced by Brave Brothers, on October 12, 2011. In November 2011, C-REAL started their Japanese promotions through a route different from their peers. Following their debut showcase, the girls put their future contract up for auction, signing with the label that provides the best conditions. Unlike other groups who sign with an agency before heading over, the girls will be using the 'posting system', a method favored by professional baseball players. Busker Busker
Busker Busker () is a South Korean indie band who rose to fame through their runner-up performance in the South Korean music audition television program ''Superstar K3'' on Mnet. The band consists of guitarist and vocalist Jang Beom-june, bassist Kim Hyung-tae and drummer Brad Moore. ''Busker Busker 1st Album'' and its single " Cherry Blossom Ending" were released in March 2012. The band's six-month contract with CJ E&M came to an end in 2012, and they then joined Chungchun Music, releasing ''Busker Busker 2nd Album'' in September 2013. In December 2013, they announced they had temporarily disbanded yet the members have repeatedly hinted at a reunion. Brave Girls
Brave Girls (; also known as B. Girls or BG) is a South Korean girl group formed by producer Brave Brothers in 2011 and managed by Brave Entertainment. After making their debut with the single album ''The Difference'' on April 7, 2011, the group has since released six extended plays, including ''Back to da Future'' (2011), ''Re-Issue'' (2012), ''High Heels'' (2016), '' Rollin''' (2017), '' Summer Queen'' (2021), and ''Thank You'' (2022). Boyfriend (band)
Boyfriend () is a South Korean boy band formed by Starship Entertainment in 2011. They are the first boy group to have twin members. The group consists of Kim Dong-hyun, Shim Hyun-seong, Lee Jeong-min, Jo Young-min, Jo Kwang-min and No Min-woo. They debuted on Mnet's ''M Countdown'' on May 26, 2011 with "Boyfriend". On May 17, 2019, Starship Entertainment announced that Boyfriend disbanded. They reformed on April 30, 2021 and returned with the digital single "Ending Credit" on May 26 for their 10-year anniversary. Block B ( ko, 블락비) is a South Korean boy band managed by KQ Entertainment, and consists of seven members: Taeil, B-Bomb, Jaehyo, U-Kwon, Park Kyung, Zico, and P.O. Block B has received several accolades, including nominations for seven Golden Disc Awards and eleven Seoul Music Awards. Block B was created by musician Cho PD in 2011 on a budget of US$1.4 million. Blady () was a five-member South Korean girl group originally formed by SY6 Entertainment and later produced by Star Planet. The group released the pre-debut retro-inspired single "찌릿찌릿 (Spark Spark)" on May 16, 2011 and their title track "미친 날 (Crazy Day)" on July 27, 2011. B1A4 () is a South Korean boy band formed by WM Entertainment. The group debuted on April 23, 2011 with the single "O.K" from the EP '' Let's Fly'', after being introduced to the public through a webtoon. They have released nine studio albums (four Korean and five Japanese) and seven EPs, as well as four compilation albums. The group has had considerable commercial and critical success in both the Korean and Japanese markets. They have also toured in the United States. History Pre-debut Baro, the rapper of the group, was scouted by a company representative who came across his photo posted on his friend's homepage on the social network Cyworld. Apink ( ko, 에이핑크, ja, エーピンク) is a South Korean girl group formed by IST Entertainment (formerly Play M Entertainment, A Cube Entertainment, and Plan A Entertainment). The group debuted on April 19, 2011, with the extended play (EP) '' Seven Springs of Apink.'' Apink currently consists of five members: Park Cho-rong, Yoon Bo-mi, Jeong Eun-ji, Kim Nam-joo and Oh Ha-young. Originally a seven-piece group, members Hong Yoo-kyung and Son Na-eun left in 2013 and 2022, respectively. Since their debut, Apink has won awards at shows such as the Golden Disc Awards, the Seoul Music Awards and the Mnet Asian Music Awards.
