1976 PBA Season
The 1976 PBA season was the second season of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Season highlights *The Crispa Redmanizers won all three conferences in the year to cap the first Grand Slam in the PBA. *On December 21, Crispa achieved the first PBA Grandslam by winning the All-Philippine championship with a 110-92 win over Toyota Tamaraws in the deciding Game five of the finals. Philip Cezar
Philip Dudley Cezar (born December 1, 1952) is a Filipino former basketball coach, player and politician. Known by the monikers "Mr. Stretch", "''Tapal'' King" and "The Scholar", he was part of the fabled Crispa Redmanizers ballclub of the Philippine Basketball Association that won two Grand Slams in 1976 and 1983. He was named the Most Valuable Player in 1980. He was also a many-time Philippine national team player in the 1970s. Ramon Fernandez
Ramon Sadaya Fernandez (; born October 3, 1953) is a Filipino former professional basketball player and current commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commission. Fernandez won four PBA Most Valuable Player awards and a record 19 PBA titles. Fernandez stood at 6'4 barefoot during his prime but due to mild gigantism grew to 6'5 during his final seasons. He scored 18,996 points to finish as the PBA's all-time scoring leader. He is also the PBA's all-time leader in rebounds, blocked shots, free throws made, playing minutes and second all-time in assists, games played and steals. Atoy Co
Fortunato "Atoy" Gan Co Jr. (born October 15, 1951) is a Filipino former basketball player and coach who played 13 seasons in the Philippine Basketball Association, mostly with Crispa Redmanizers. Nicknamed "The Fortune Cookie" (a pun on his name and ethnicity) during his playing days, he was notable for his trademark turnaround fadeaway jump shot. He is also a former politician and actor. Collegiate and amateur career Co joined the Mapúa Cardinals in 1970 and played for the Mapúa team for three years. He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) during his first two years. He also brought his wares with the old Crispa team in the MICAA. Francis Arnaiz
Francis C. Arnaiz (born June 4, 1951) is a Filipino former basketball player. He is best known as a PBA player, playing for Toyota and Ginebra San Miguel from 1975-1986. Early basketball years Arnaiz had a love for sports and was shooting stuffed toys into a basket in early childhood. While studying at La Salle-Bacolod in elementary school, he competed in football and basketball. Football provided the speed and exceptional footwork, skills which would later develop him into an outstanding basketball player. U/Tex Wranglers
The U/Tex Wranglers were a professional basketball team and one of the pioneers of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) in its maiden season in 1975. History Universal Textile Mills, Inc., a company owned by Patricio Luis "P. L." Lim and Walter Euyang, formed the U-Tex Spinners in 1960, playing in the Businessman Athletic Association (BAA), a minor league. It transferred to the MICAA in 1961. By the 1970s, the team was competing in the MICAA as the U/Tex Weavers. They were bannered by the likes of Lawrence "Larry" Mumar, Danny Basilan and Lucio Lim. Others who donned the Weavers jersey were Francis Arnaiz, Jumbo Salvador, Roehl Nadurata, Clemente Bargas, Orly de los Santos and Domingo Celis. William "Bogs" Adornado (born May 26, 1951) is a Filipino former basketball player and coach. He is one of the Philippine Basketball Association's Greatest Players and was inducted to its Hall of Fame in 2005. He was a three-time PBA Most Valuable Player (1975, 1976, and 1981) and is considered one of the best Filipino basketball players of all-time. Tanduay Rhum Masters
The Tanduay Rhum Makers (1975-1987) and Tanduay Rhum Masters (1999-2001) were two basketball franchises associated with the same liquor brand that played in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). The original franchise, owned by Elizalde & Co., Inc., was a founding member of the PBA. From 1975-1980, the team played under the name Tanduay Distillery; Tanduay ESQ and Tanduay Esquires; then as, YCO-Tanduay in 1981-1983. The final name used by the original franchise was the Tanduay Rhum Makers (1983-1987). The original franchise won a total of three PBA championships. In 1988, its PBA franchise was acquired by Pure Foods Corporation and played as Purefoods. The second franchise played under the name Tanduay Rhum Masters and was owned by Tanduay Distillers, Inc.
