Éditions Du Seuil
Éditions du Seuil (), also known as ''Le Seuil'', is a French publishing house established in 1935 by Catholic intellectual Jean Plaquevent (1901–1965), and currently owned by La Martinière Groupe. It owes its name to this goal "The ''seuil'' (threshold) is the whole excitement of parting and arriving. It is also the brand new threshold that we refashion at the door of the Church to allow entry to many whose foot gropes around it" (Jean Plaquevent, letter dated 28 December 1934). Description Éditions du Seuil was the publisher of the ''Don Camillo'' series, and of Chairman Mao Zedong's '' Little Red Book''. The large sales that these generated have allowed the house to publish more specialized titles, particularly in the social sciences. Maurice Olender
Maurice Olender (21 April 1946 – 27 October 2022) was a French historian, professor at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) in Paris. His teaching focused in particular on the genesis of the idea of race in the nineteenth century. As editor, he headed the journal ' and ''La librairie du XXIe siècle'' at Éditions du Seuil. In the field of book publishing, a collection or, more precisely, editorial collection (french: collection éditoriale; es, colección editorial; it, collana editoriale; pt, coleção de livros, translation=collection of books), is a set of books published by the same publisher, usually written by various authors, each book with its own title, but all grouped under the same collective title. Denis Jeambar (born 1948 in Valréas) is a French journalist. Biography Having started his career at ''Paris-Match'' in 1970, he joined ''Le Point'' in 1972, rising to chief of its political staff in 1981. Michel Chodkiewicz
Michel Chodkiewicz (13 May 1929 – 31 March 2020) was a French author and a scholar of Sufism, especially Akbarian teaching. Biography Chodkiewicz was from the Chodkiewicz family, a noble family of the Polish aristocracy who settled in France in 1832. He was born in Paris in 1929 and completed most of his education there. He was Director-General then President and CEO of ''Editions du Seuil'' from 1977 to 1989. He became director of studies at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales where he conducted seminars on Ibn 'Arabi. He converted to Islam as the "outcome of a personal search begun as a teenager ..because Catholicism did not provide satisfactory answers". Beatrice Alemagna (born 1973) is an Italian illustrator and author. Biography Born in Bologna, Italy in 1973, Beatrice Alemagna studied at the Graphic School in Urbino (ISIA), and in 1997 moved to Paris, where she currently lives. She worked as a poster artist for Centre Pompidou for over 10 years.
