Rowing career

At the junior world representative level Brennan won silver in the single scull at the 2001 Junior World Championship and became the first Australian to have won gold in the single scull at the 2003 U/23 World Championship. After a promising start to the campaign with a silver medal in the Lucerne World Cup, Brennan suffered a back injury immediately prior to the games but raced regardless, finishing in second place in the B final for an overall eighth place in the 2012 Olympic rankings. Brennan was unable to recover from this injury despite two years of intensive rehab and retired from the sport in 2015 to pursue a career in medicine.
