History

SEMASHUR encompasses an expansive area spanning 60 acres, featuring 40 acres of lush greenery alongside a 7-acre former mining pool. Accessible via the River Tua to Batu Caves (25 km) or the Tg. Pilot - KL road to Rawang (30 km), the institution was officially inaugurated on 16 June 2000 as the 38th Sekolah Berasrama Penuh. Operational duties commenced promptly on 20 June 2000, with the establishment team consisting of the Senior Assistant, Senior Assistant Student Affairs (HEM), and 23 faculty members entrusted with educating the pioneer cohort of 150 students. Subsequently, on 21 July 2000, SEMASHUR welcomed its inaugural batch of 180 Form 1 students, marking the commencement of its academic journey. The school's milestones continued as it admitted its first Form 4 intake in February 2001. A significant accolade was achieved on 9 April 2009, when SEMASHUR was honored with the Cluster Schools award, recognizing its exemplary performance in specialized areas such as rugby, uniformed bodies, and mathematics. The school basketball team is Blazes Semashur.

Sports

Rugby – SEMASHUR Zealord SEMASHUR's rugby team, Zealord, stands as one of the premier rugby teams in Malaysia, with a legacy of dominance at both national and international levels since the school's establishment. SEMASHUR is one of the six founding schools of the prestigious Super Six Tournament, now known as Super Schools Rugby. Over the years, Zealord has consistently showcased extraordinary skill and physical excellence, winning the Super Schools Rugby Championship in 2019 and again in 2024. The team has reached the finals in 2018 and 2022, further solidifying its position as a rugby powerhouse. Several alumni have advanced to elite rugby clubs, competing in the Malaysia Rugby League Premier. Notably, Hariz Ezzat bin Hamidon, a remarkable Zealord player, represented Malaysia at the SEA 7s Championship 2024 in Singapore, exemplifying the team's reputation for developing world-class talent. Basketball – SEMASHUR Blazes SEMASHUR's basketball team, Blazes, rebranded in 2008, has built an impressive record of success. The men's team dominated the Central Zone Championship, winning six consecutive titles from 2008 to 2013, and reached the semi-finals at the national level five times (2008–2012), with their best finish as runners-up in 2011. SEMASHUR Blazes is widely recognized as a rising force in SBP basketball, rivaling national powerhouses such as MCKK Cagers, SAINSKU, SDAR, and MOZAC. This success is attributed to the contributions of notable players like Ibrahim (2001–2005), Haiqal Azree (2004–2008), and Arif (2009–2013), as well as the leadership of team manager Wan Johari Wan Gati, who left in 2012. The SEMASHUR Alumni team has also shone brightly, winning the Alumni SBP League twice (2022 and 2024).
