Life

Coggins graduated from Exeter College, Oxford in 1950 and after training for the priesthood in the Church of England at St Stephen's House, Oxford served a curacy in the Diocese of Exeter. He spent five years in Oxford as a tutor and chaplain at St Stephen's House before joining King's College London as a Lecturer in Old Testament studies in 1962. He retired as a senior lecturer in 1994. Among his students during his early years at King's was the future Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Coggins was public preacher at the Anglican Diocese of Southwark and belonged to St Matthew, Brixton. In his retirement he moved to Lymington in Hampshire.
