When the growing numbers of Architecture students at the School of Fine Arts were becoming excessive for the proper teaching of the course, the University of Porto granted a new location in another parish of the city,

Massarelos Massarelos () is a former civil parish in the municipality of Porto, Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Lordelo do Ouro e Massarelos. The population in 2011 was 6,789, in an area of 1.94 km².Álvaro Siza was commissioned to design the premises for the newly independent faculty, which were completed in 1992.
