The district, which is New Jersey's largest geographically, is a Republican-leaning swing seat, that has shifted to the right in the late 2010s.

Of these, 72% are White, 13% Black, and 11% Latino. Immigrants make up 7% of the district's potential voters. Median income among households (with one or more potential voter) in the district is about $68,127, while 9% of households live below the poverty line. As for the educational attainment of potential voters in the district, 10% of those 25 and older have not earned a high school degree, while 27% hold a bachelor's or higher degree.
