It is one of the relatively more populated suburbs located in the Colombo District of the Western Province and it is surrounded by the other suburbs of Moratuwa, Maharagama, Pannipitiya, Bandaragama and Kahathuduwa. The Kesbewa Urban Council is located in Piliyandala.
