Early life

Atkins was born in Nottingham and grew up in the

area, where she attended Greencroft Primary School, Farnborough School and High Pavement College. She has been a member of the Television Workshop since she was at primary school.

Atkins' breakthrough came early, in Shane Meadows' 2002 film '' Once Upon a Time in the Midlands'', in which she played Marlene, the daughter of Shirley (
