During the 19th century, the land along the Western Run was used for a mill that was damaged in a flood in 1868. The majority of Cheswolde's current homes were built in the 1950s and 1960s. Cheswolde has a large Orthodox Jewish population and is one of four areas of the Jewish community of northwest Baltimore. The others are Cross Country, Fallstaff, and Glen.Sherrie Ruhl (September 25, 1994)
