In 1999, Lozada became an editor of '' Foreign Policy'' in Washington D.C., eventually becoming the magazine's managing editor. Lozada was a 2004–2005 Knight-Bagehot Fellow in Business and Economics Journalism at

He was elected to the Pulitzer Prize Board in November 2019.
