Insect repellent

American beautyberry has been used as a folk remedy to prevent mosquito bites. Four chemicals isolated from ''Callicarpa'' have been shown to act as insect repellents: borneol, callicarpenal, intermedeol, and spathulenol. The use of callicarpenal has been patented by the
