Early life

Johnson was born on February 16, 1987, in Barrett Station, Texas. He attended Robert E. Lee High School, where he lettered in football and basketball. During his senior year in 2003, in which he took over starting quarterback duties from Drew Tate, Johnson passed for 2,900 yards and 33 touchdowns and rushed for 540 yards with 12 touchdowns.
