from 1978 to 1980. He first joined the faculty of the University at Albany's School of Criminal Justice in 1985 as an associate professor, and was named a full professor there in 1993. In 2016, he became a Distinguished Professor at the School. He served as the director of the School's Hindelang Criminal Justice Research Center from 1994 to 1997, and then again from 2003 to 2010, when he was named the School's dean; he retained the latter position until 2015.
