* MacGibbon and Ross begin publication of ''The Castellated and Domestic Architecture of Scotland, from the twelfth to the eighteenth century''. * G. A. Wayss publishes ''Das System Monier-Eisengerippe mit Cementumhüllung-in seiner Anwendung auf das gesammte Bauwesen'' in Berlin, one of the first books on reinforced concrete (using Joseph Monier's system).
