Figgjoelva
Figgjoelva or Figgjo is a river in Rogaland county, Norway. The long river begins at the lake Edlandsvatnet in the village of Ålgård in Gjesdal municipality. It then heads north into the municipality of Sandnes before heading west. For a while, the river forms the municipal border between Sandnes and Time and between Sandnes and Klepp. The last part of the river runs west through Klepp before emptying into the North Sea. The Feistein Lighthouse lies on a small island, just northwest of the mouth of the river. The main part of the river is , but if you include the tributaries, the river is about twice as long at . The river was developed for power generation as early as 1870, but the many small power plants that were built are now mostly closed. Sandnes () is a city and municipality in Rogaland, Norway. It lies immediately south of Stavanger, the 4th largest city in Norway and together, the Stavanger/Sandnes area is the third-largest urban area in Norway. Figgjo is a borough of the city of Sandnes in the west part of the large municipality of Sandnes in Rogaland county, Norway. The borough is located in the southern part of the city. It has a population (2016) of 2,213. The borough is mostly rural, but the village of Figgjo lies in the southern edge of the municipality. About 90% of the population of the borough lives in the village of Figgjo. Although it is part of the city of Sandnes, Statistics Norway considers Figgjo to be a separate urban area (this urban area is not the same as the borough, just one part of it). Ålgård Church ( no, Ålgård kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Gjesdal Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Ålgård. It is the main church for the Ålgård parish which is part of the Jæren prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The white, concrete church was built in a fan-shaped style in 2015 using designs by the architects René de Groot og Erik Thesen from the firm, Link Arkitektur. The church seats about 500 people. The church was built in 2015 to replace the Old Ålgård Church (located next door) which was then too small for the congregation. Old Ålgård Church ( no, Ålgård gamle kirke) is a historic parish church of the Church of Norway in Gjesdal Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Ålgård. It used to be the main church for the Ålgård parish which is part of the Jæren prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design and an art nouveau style in 1917 using designs by the architect Ole Stein. The church seats about 250 people. History Work began on the new church on 20 March 1916 when a groundbreaking ceremony was held. The church was consecrated on 11 May 1917 by the Bishop Bernt Støylen. The church cost about to build.
