Ulf, or Ulv is a masculine name common in Scandinavia and Germany. It derives from the Old Norse word for "wolf" (''úlfr'', see Wulf). The oldest written record of the name's occurrence in Sweden is from a runestone of the 11th century. The female form is Ylva. The given name Ulf was relatively popular during the 20th century, but by the 21st century mostly fell out of fashion. Old Norse
Old Norse, Old Nordic, or Old Scandinavian, is a stage of development of North Germanic dialects before their final divergence into separate Nordic languages. Old Norse was spoken by inhabitants of Scandinavia and their overseas settlements and chronologically coincides with the Viking Age, the Christianization of Scandinavia and the consolidation of Scandinavian kingdoms from about the 7th to the 15th centuries. Ulf Georg Georgsson (born 22 April 1962 in Kinna Parish in former Älvsborg County, Sweden), is a Swedish songwriter, who has participated at Melodifestivalen as a songwriter, and written songs recorded by, among other, Lasse Stefanz, Vikingarna, Playtones, Drifters, Zekes, CC & Lee, Black Jack, Barbados, Friends and Frøya. As a musician he plays the drums in Flamingokvintetten since June 2013, after 30 years in Bhonus. At Svensktoppen ''Svensktoppen'' () is a weekly record chart airing at Sveriges Radio. Ulf Olsson
Ulf Olsson (19 December 1951 – 10 January 2010), also known as Helénmannen ("the Helén man") was a Swedish murderer. He was convicted for the murders of 10-year-old Helén Nilsson and 26-year-old Jannica Ekblad in 1989. Found after a DNA test in 2004 (a test series including 28 other men), Olsson was convicted and sentenced to psychiatric care in 2005. Although he was first brought to the attention of the police in 2002, he had been in contact with two different police officers through anonymous letters and phone calls since only a couple of months after the murders. The investigation is the second-largest in Swedish history, only surpassed by the investigation of the 1986 assassination of Swedish prime minister Olof Palme. Ulf Nilsson (ice Hockey)
Ulf Gösta Nilsson (born 11 May 1950) is a Swedish former professional ice hockey player who played in the World Hockey Association (WHA) for the Winnipeg Jets and in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the New York Rangers. Career in North America Part of the first major wave of Europeans to star in North American hockey, he was a major star in the World Hockey Association from 1974 to 1978. He scored at least 114 points in each of his four seasons in the upstart league, finishing third or fourth among overall scorers every time. He led the WHA with 85 assists in 1976–77, and tied Marc Tardif for the lead the next season with 89. Along with countryman Anders Hedberg and established superstar Bobby Hull, he played a starring role as the Jets won Avco Cup titles in 1976 and 1978. Ulf Gerhard Lundell (born 20 November 1949) is a Swedish writer, poet, songwriter, composer, musician and artist. He made his debut in 1975 with the LP '' Vargmåne'' and was immediately hailed as "Sweden's Bob Dylan". In 1976 his first novel, the partly autobiographical ''Jack'' was published by Wahlström & Widstrand. Lundell was influenced by musicians such as Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and writers such as Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg and other beats. Ulf Lundell is one of the central figures in Swedish rock music and almost since his debut he has been one of the most important influences on rock musicians writing and singing in Swedish. Ulf Lönnqvist (26 June 1936 – 24 June 2022) was a Swedish social democratic politician who held several government posts and was a member of the Swedish Parliament. Biography Lönnqvist was born in Malmö on 26 June 1936. He was a graduate of Lund University. Following his graduation Lönnqvist moved to Tyresö to work at the department of chancellor. Ulf Harald Linde (15 April 1929 – 12 October 2013) was a Swedish art critic, writer, museum director and a member of the Swedish Academy. Born in Stockholm, he was elected to the Swedish Academy on 10 February 1977 and admitted on 20 December 1977. Linde succeeded the writer Eyvind Johnson to Seat No.11. Linde was the director of the Thiel Gallery in Stockholm between 1977 and 1997. Ulf Linde was active as a jazz musician, mainly in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Ulf Sigfrid "Uffe" Larsson (1 July 1956 – 28 September 2009) was a Swedish actor, revue artist, comedian and stage director. Ulf Larsson was born in Bromma, Stockholm, in 1956. In the early 1980s, he appeared in numerous television shows and stage productions. In the 1980s he also became well known by children in the ''Bröderna Olsson'' ("Olsson brothers"), and in ''Kusiner i kubik'' ("cousins cubed"), and told stories in ''Pratmakarna'' ("the talkers"). His real breakthrough, however, came as he hosted the popular entertainment-show ''Söndagsöppet'' ("open on Sunday"). Ulf Kirsten (born 4 December 1965) is a German former professional footballer who played as a striker. Nicknamed ''Der Schwatte'' (dialect for ''Der Schwarze'', 'The Black One'), he is the first player in history to reach a total 100 caps playing with two different national teams (first for East Germany, then Reunified Germany).
