UX Tauri
UX Tauri, abbreviated as UX Tau, is a binary star system approximately 450 light-years away in the constellation of Taurus (the Bull). It is notable for the fact that, despite its recent (in stellar terms) creation, the Spitzer Space Telescope discovered that its protoplanetary disk contains a gap. The dust, which normally accumulates in an expanding ring starting right next to the star at such a young age, is either very thin or nonexistent at a range of 0.2 to 56 AU from the star. Typically, this means that the early ancestors of planets may be forming from the disk, though the star only ignited about 1 million years ago. In contrast, Earth was formed approximately 4.54 billion years ago, placing its formation about sixty million years after the Sun's ignition around 4.6 billion years ago. UX Arietis
UX Arietis is a triple star system located in the northern zodiacal constellation of Aries. Based upon parallax measurements from the Gaia satellite, it is roughly 165 light years away. The star varies in brightness from magnitude 6.35 to 6.71, meaning it may be intermittently visible to the unaided eye under ideal dark-sky conditions. In 1972, Robert E. Montle and Douglas S. Hall discovered that the star's brightness varies. It was given its variable star designation in 1973. The primary, component Aa, is the variable star, of the RS CVn type. The variability of the star is believed due to a combination of cool star spots and warm flares, set against the baseline quiescent temperature of the stellar atmosphere. The variability appears to be cyclical with a period of 8−9 years. A more distant companion, component C, shares a common proper motion This glossary of astronomy is a list of definitions of terms and concepts relevant to astronomy and cosmology, the ...

UX Lyncis
UX Lyncis is a variable star in the faint northern constellation of Lynx, positioned about 3° to the south of the 4th magnitude star 10 Ursae Majoris. This is a red-hued star near the lower threshold of visibility to the naked eye, having an apparent visual magnitude that fluctuates around 6.70. It is located at a distance of approximately 900 light years from the Sun based on parallax, and is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +39 km/s. The stellar classification of this star is M3III, while the infrared spectrum matches a class of M6III. It is an aging red giant on the asymptotic giant branch that has exhausted the supply of both hydrogen and helium in its core, then cooled and expanded. At present it has 128 times the radius of the Sun, which is equivalent to or 60% of the distance from the Sun to the Earth. On average, it radiates a luminosity approximately 1,766 times that of the Sun from its swollen photosphere at an effective temperature of ...

DG/UX
DG/UX is a discontinued Unix operating system developed by Data General for its Eclipse MV minicomputer line, and later the AViiON workstation and server line (both Motorola 88000 and Intel IA-32-based variants). Overview DG/UX 1.00, released in March, 1985, was based on UNIX System V Release 2 with additions from 4.1BSD. By 1987, DG/UX 3.10 had been released, with 4.2BSD TCP/IP networking, NFS and the X Window System included. DG/UX 4.00, in 1988, was a comprehensive re-design of the system, based on System V Release 3, and supporting symmetric multiprocessing on the Eclipse MV. The 4.00 filesystem was based on the AOS/VS II filesystem and, using the logical disk facility, could span multiple disks. DG/UX 5.4, released around 1991, replaced the legacy Unix file buffer cache with unified, demand paged virtual memory management. Later versions were based on System V Release 4. On the AViiON, DG/UX supported multiprocessor machines at a time when most variants of Unix did not. ...

Unix
Unix (, ; trademarked as UNIX) is a family of multitasking, multi-user computer operating systems that derive from the original AT&T Unix, whose development started in 1969 at the Bell Labs research center by Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie, and others. Initially intended for use inside the Bell System, AT&T licensed Unix to outside parties in the late 1970s, leading to a variety of both academic and commercial Unix variants from vendors including University of California, Berkeley ( BSD), Microsoft (Xenix), Sun Microsystems ( SunOS/ Solaris), HP/ HPE ( HP-UX), and IBM ( AIX). The early versions of Unix—which are retrospectively referred to as " Research Unix"—ran on computers such as the PDP-11 and VAX; Unix was commonly used on minicomputers and mainframes from the 1970s onwards. It distinguished itself from its predecessors as the first portable operating system: almost the entire operating system is written in the C programming language (in 1973), which allows U ...
