Underground Film
An underground film is a film that is out of the mainstream either in its style, genre or financing. Notable examples include John Waters' ''Pink Flamingos'', David Lynch's ''Eraserhead'', Andy Warhol's ''Blue Movie'', Rosa von Praunheim's ''Tally Brown, New York'', Frank Henenlotter's Basket Case (film), ''Basket Case'', Nikos Nikolaidis' Singapore Sling (1990 film), ''Singapore Sling'', Rinse Dreams' ''Café Flesh'', and Jörg Buttgereit's ''Nekromantik''. Nekromantik
''Nekromantik'' (stylized as ''NEKRomantik'') is a 1987 West German erotic exploitation horror film co-written and directed by Jörg Buttgereit. It is known to be frequently controversial, banned in a number of countries, and has become a cult film over the years due to its transgressive subject matter (including necrophilia) and audacious imagery. Plot Robert Schmadtke is a troubled young man who works for a company that specialises in cleaning up public spaces after traffic accidents and other fatal incidents; a job which allows Robert to indulge in and explore his necrophilia fetishes, which are shared by his wife Betty. London Film-Makers' Co-op
The London Film-makers' Co-operative, or LFMC, was a British film-making workshop founded in 1966. It was largely responsible for the rise of British avant-garde cinema in the later 1960s. Work produced by members of the LFMC in the late 1960s and early 1970s has been labelled Structural/Materialist Film. History The LFMC grew out of film screenings at the Better Books bookstore, part of the 1960s counter-culture in London, before moving to the original Arts Lab on Drury Lane. Then it shared offices with John 'Hoppy' Hopkins' BIT information service, before, with the breakaway group that formed the New Arts Lab, moving to the Camden-based Institute for Research in Art and Technology. Fred Zinnemann
Alfred Zinnemann (April 29, 1907 – March 14, 1997) was an American film director and producer. He won four Academy Awards for directing and producing films in various genres, including thriller film, thrillers, western (genre), westerns, film noir and drama, play adaptations. He began his career in Europe before emigrating to the US, where he specialized in Short film, shorts before making 25 feature films during his 50-year career.
