The Substation
The Substation (Chinese: 电力站) is Singapore's first independent contemporary arts centre. It was founded in 1990 by Kuo Pao Kun. The Substation is centrally located in the city's civic district and was the first building under the National Arts Council (Singapore), National Arts Council's "Arts Housing Scheme". It officially opened on 16 September 1990. The Substation is a non-profit organisation and registered Institution of Public Character in Singapore, which relies on financial and in-kind support from the general public, commercial organisations and government ministries to cover the costs of operating and developing arts & educational programmes. Ho Tzu Nyen
Ho Tzu Nyen (; born 1976) is a Singaporean contemporary artist and filmmaker whose works involve film, video, performance, and immersive multimedia installations. His work brings together fact and myth to mobilise different understandings of Southeast Asia's history, politics, and religion, often premised upon a complex set of references from art history, to theatre, cinema, and philosophy. Ho has shown internationally at major exhibitions such as the Aichi Triennale, Japan (2019), the Sharjah Biennial 14, United Arab Emirates (2019), and the Gwangju Biennale, South Korea (2018). People Like Us (PLU) (Chinese:我等之辈) is a gay equality lobby group in Singapore. Royston Tan
Royston Tan (born 5 October 1976) is a Singaporean filmmaker and actor. Tan is a graduate from Temasek Polytechnic, where he studied Visual Communications. He first came into prominence through his short films: ''Sons'' (2000), ''Hock Hiap Leong'' (2001), ''48 on AIDS'' (2002), ''Mother'' (2002) and '' 15'' (2002). He has so far directed six features. In 2021 he was selected as a jury member for the Sonje Award at the 26th Busan International Film Festival. He was appointed creative director of the Singapore National Day Parade in 2020 and 2023. Tan Pin Pin
Tan Pin Pin (, born 1969) is a Singapore-based film director. She is best known for the documentary film ''Singapore GaGa'' (2005). It was the first Singaporean documentary to have a theatrical run. In 2014, her documentary '' To Singapore, With Love'' (2013) was denied for all ratings by the Media Development Authority, effectively banning it in Singapore.
