The Locust
The Locust was an American hardcore punk band from San Diego, California, known for their mix of grindcore aggression and new wave experimentation. The band has been noted for their use of insect costumes when performing live. History Prior to The Locust founding members Justin Pearson and Dylan Scharf were in the hardcore punk band Struggle together, formed in late 1990. The band only lasted three years. Despite this they had opportunities to share musical space with other significant bands with similar ideological perspectives such as Born Against, Downcast, Bikini Kill, and Econochrist. The band disbanded in 1994. The Locust formed in 1994 by Pearson, Scharf, Bobby Bray, Dave Warshaw, and Dave Astor. The band was initially a powerviolence project whose first release was a split with genre pioneers Man Is the Bastard in 1995. Gabriel Serbian (May 1, 1977 – April 30, 2022) was an American drummer and guitarist, most famous for his work in The Locust, Cattle Decapitation, Holy Molar and Zu. ''Big Mess'' is the second solo studio album by American singer, musician, and composer Danny Elfman. It was released by Anti- and Epitaph Records on June 11, 2021. The album is Elfman's first studio album outside of his film and classical compositions since the 1994 album '' Boingo'' with his former band Oingo Boingo, and his first solo pop release since the 1984 album '' So-Lo''. Although ''Big Mess'' features former members of Oingo Boingo, such as Steve Bartek, Warren Fitzgerald, and Marc Mann, it is not an Oingo Boingo collaboration in the vein of ''So-Lo''. ''The Locust'' is the debut studio album by American grindcore band The Locust. Background The Locust formed in 1994, the band initially were Justin Pearson and Dylan Scharf, whose other band, Struggle, was about to come to an end. As they recruited Dave Astor, Bobby Bray, and Dave Warshaw the band began paving their powerviolence influenced sound and began developing identity on their early split releases with Man Is The Bastard and Jenny Piccolo. The line up of the band would change over the years with Joseph Karam and Gabe Serbian joining. Starting as a band that fit with their hardcore peers, they soon settled on an aesthetic of sci-fi and entomology would begin to manifest in their artwork and lyrics as early as 1998.
