The El Caminos
The El Caminos are a Japanese surf music band who were formed in the 1990s. They had an album that charted in the late 1990s. Background They have been described as a band that peruses the sounds of surf music from the 1960s without limits. They were formed in Japan by Eddie Ugata of the L.S.D.s. Ugata who is said to be authority on 1960s surf music and vintage guitar collector formed The El Cominos in 1994 out of what remained of his previous group. They did quite well on the Kansai garage scene and debuted with ''Knock 'Em Out''. The group is made up of both male and female musicians. Described as Japanese surf freaks, their surf guitar album, ''Reverb Explosion!'' was their first release in the US. Fronted by Eddie Ugata on rhythm guitar, they were discovered by Bob Keene of Del-Fi Records. As of 1997, they were only using Fender, Danelectro, and Vox guitars. The amps were Fender as well. KFJC (89.7 FM) is a student-run college and community radio station licensed to Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, California. The station, which has a Variety format, broadcasts a broad spectrum of musical genres as well as public affairs programming. KFJC serves the southern San Francisco Bay Area. KFJC's mission is to be a conduit for new and interesting audio art and information. KFJC's music programming is largely oriented to recent material from many genres. Hot Tuna is an American blues rock band formed in 1969 by former Jefferson Airplane members Jorma Kaukonen (guitarist/vocals) and Jack Casady (bassist). Although it has always been a fluid aggregation, with musicians coming and going over the years, the band's center has always been Kaukonen and Casady's ongoing collaboration. Duane Eddy (April 26, 1938 – April 30, 2024) was an American guitarist. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, he had a string of hit records produced by Lee Hazlewood which were noted for their characteristically "twangy" guitar sound, including " Rebel-'Rouser", "Peter Gunn", and " Because They're Young". He had sold 12 million records by 1963. "Rebel-'Rouser" is a rock and roll instrumental song written by Duane Eddy and Lee Hazlewood and originally released on Jamie Records in 1958 by "Duane Eddy and his 'twangy' guitar" as a single (Jamie 1104) with "Stalkin'" on its B-side. Both tracks were produced by Lester Sill and Lee Hazlewood. The Pyramids were a surf group from Long Beach, California, United States, who formed in 1961. In early 1964, they made the Top 20 of the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 with their instrumental " Penetration". It proved to be the final major instrumental surf hit. History The band started in 1961 and was made up of five students from Poly High. All of them played some rock n roll. The members were Skip Mercier on lead and rhythm guitar, Ron McMullen on drums, Tom Pitman on sax, Willie Glover on rhythm guitar and Steve Leonard on bass. Drake Jenkins replaced McMullen on drums in 1964. The group got their first break at a San Bernardino dance which a local radio station had sponsored.
