Tagesschau24 (, "Review of the Day 24," stylized as tagesschau24) is a German free-to-air television channel owned by ARD and managed by Norddeutscher Rundfunk. Launched on 30 August 1997 as "EinsExtra", the channel was renamed ''Tagesschau 24'' on 1 May 2012. It is ARD's news channel and competes with Welt and n-tv. Besides news, Tagesschau24 also broadcasts culture, sports and science shows. A HD simulcast of the channel was launched on 5 December 2013. History The ARD digital broadcaster started on 30 August 1997 as EinsExtra. It was positioned as information channel. Until 2006, the network's programming consisted largely of re-airings of morning shows, talk shows and documentaries from Das Erste and the regional public broadcasters. ARD (broadcaster)
ARD is a joint organisation of Germany's regional Public broadcasting, public-service broadcasters. It was founded in 1950 in West Germany to represent the common interests of the new, decentralised, post-war broadcasting services—in particular the introduction of a joint television network. ARD has a budget of €6.9 billion, 22,612 employees and is the largest public broadcaster network in the world. The budget comes primarily from a mandatory licence fee which every household, company and public institution, regardless of television ownership, is required by law to pay. For an ordinary household the fee is €18.36 per month, as of 2023. Households living on Welfare in Germany, welfare are exempt from the fee. Das Erste (; "The First") is the flagship national television channel of the ARD (broadcaster), ARD association of public broadcasting corporations in Germany. ''One'' (stylized as ''one'') is a German free-to-air television channel owned and operated by the German public-broadcasting consortium ARD. Managed since October 2005 by Westdeutscher Rundfunk on behalf of ARD as a whole, the channel was launched (as ''EinsFestival'') on 30 August 1997. History On 29 July 2016, WDR announced that from early September 2016 ''Einsfestival'' became ''One'' and became a channel specifically aimed at viewers aged between 30 and 49. ARD alpha is a German free-to-air television channel run by regional public-service broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk. Its programming consists of shows made by Bayerischer Rundfunk, as well as from ARD and Austrian broadcaster ORF. The channel was originally called ''BR-alpha'', but was rebranded as ''ARD-alpha'' on 29 June 2014. 720p (720 lines progressive) is a progressive HD signal format with 720 horizontal lines/1280 columns and an aspect ratio (AR) of 16:9, normally known as widescreen HD (1.78:1). All major HD broadcasting standards (such as SMPTE 292M) include a 720p format, which has a resolution of 1280×720. The number ''720'' stands for the 720 horizontal scan lines of image display resolution (also known as 720 pixels of vertical resolution). The ''p'' stands for progressive scan, i.e. non-interlaced. When broadcast at 60 frames per second, 720p features the highest temporal resolution possible under the ATSC and DVB standards.
