Téléroman
A téléroman ("telenovel" or ''annual drama series'') is a genre of French-language drama television series in Canada, similar to a soap opera or a Spanish language telenovela. In France, the ''téléroman'' genre is known as feuilleton télévisé (similar to a serial). ''Téléromans'' are one of the most popular television series formats in Québécois culture and are also shown on French television. In Canada, all of the major francophone television networks air ''téléromans'', including the public broadcaster Radio-Canada, which broadcasts them nationally, and the private networks TVA and Noovo. TFO in Ontario has also produced one téléroman. In France, the TF1 network and the subscription channel Canal+ air ''feuilletons télévisés''. Some famous téléromans produced in France include ''Riviera'', ''Sous le soleil'', ''Plus belle la vie'' and ''Cinq sœurs''. Telenovela
A telenovela is a type of a television serial drama or soap opera produced primarily in Latin America. The word combines ''tele'' (for "television") and ''novela'' (meaning "novel"). Similar Drama (film and television), drama genres around the world include ''Turkish television drama, dizi'' (Turkey), ''Indian television drama, serial'' (India), ''teleserye'' (Philippines), ''lakorn'' (Thailand), ''teleromanzo'' (Italy), ''téléroman'' (Canada, specifically Quebec), ''Korean drama, K-drama'' (South Korea), ''Japanese television drama, J-drama'' (Japan), ''Chinese television drama, C-drama'' (China) and ''sinetron'' (Indonesia). La Famille Plouffe
''La famille Plouffe'' was a Canadian television drama, more specifically a téléroman, about a Quebec City family that first aired in the French language on Société Radio-Canada in 1953. The show was created to fill a void in francophone television in Canada. Whereas the English Canadian television branch of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation could broadcast English-language shows from American stations, the francophone component of the CBC, Radio-Canada had to develop its own programs for French Canadian viewers from the earliest days of television in Canada. This show was one of the few that helped to launch the téléroman genre of programming in French Canada, around the same time the first telenovelas aired in Latin America. Plot This is the story of flatmates living in a dormitory. Louise is one of the central character in this series along with Rodrigue "Pete" Béliveau. Louise welcomes students into her residence and ends up taking on different roles for her guests: a mother, nurse, listener, psychologist, and probation agent among others. The students develop a close relationship with her and most of them keep coming back each year. Even after they depart, Louise is always available for them. Through different students' experiences, we are witness to all sorts of wild and turbulent events. ''He Shoots, He Scores'' () is a Canadian '' téléroman'', or television drama series, revolving around a fictional ice hockey team based in Quebec City. The series aired from 1986 to 1989 on the Radio-Canada network, and revival series on TQS in 2001 and on TVA from 2004 to 2015. ''Francoeur'' was a Canadian television series, first aired by TFO in 2003. It was the first Franco-Ontarian téléroman. The series has produced 44 episodes to date. The series revolves around the Francoeurs, a Franco-Ontarian family in Eastern Ontario running a family farm. ''Virginie'' is a French-language Canadian television series that aired Monday through Thursday on Radio-Canada (the French-language CBC television network). It debuted in 1996. The show examined the public and private lives of teachers, students, and families at the fictional Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc high school. It frequently dealt with controversial social topics, such as teen drug use, ethnic prejudice, divorce, and other subjects touching on contemporary Quebec life. "Virginie" was a ''téléroman''-style drama that often used "cliffhangers" in the storylines. It aired 120 episodes per year of 30 minutes each.
