Senior Hockey
Senior hockey refers to amateur or semi-professional ice hockey competition. There are no age restrictions for Senior players, who typically consist of those whose Junior eligibility has expired. Senior hockey leagues operate under the jurisdiction of Hockey Canada or USA Hockey. They are not affiliated in any way with professional hockey leagues. Many former professional players play Senior hockey after their pro careers are over. The top Senior AAA teams in Canada compete annually for the Allan Cup. History From the beginning of the 1900s until the 1970s, Senior hockey was immensely popular across Canada, particularly in rural towns. Amateur
An amateur () is generally considered a person who pursues an avocation independent from their source of income. Amateurs and their pursuits are also described as popular, informal, self-taught, user-generated, DIY, and hobbyist. Highway Hockey League
The Highway Hockey League is a men's senior ice hockey league sanctioned by Hockey Saskatchewan and Hockey Canada. History The league was formed in 1965 with five teams in Bulyea, Drake, Govan, Lumsden, and Strasbourg. Many teams have come and gone throughout the history of the league. Twenty-three towns have had teams in the league at one point. Teams compete for the HHL Robert Schultz Trophy and SHA Provincial championships. The Raymore Rockets won the Robert Schultz Trophpy ten times, which is the most of any team. Mountain West Hockey League
The Mountain West Hockey League (MWHL) is a Senior ice hockey league consisting of teams from the Western United States. History The MWHL was founded in Las Vegas, Nevada by Thomas Brown in 2012. It is a Senior A ice hockey league with clubs spanning the western United States. MWHL clubs are composed of North American and European players with junior, college, and professional experience. The MWHL features two geographic divisions: Sierra and Rocky. The MWHL regular season runs from November through March. The club with the best record at the end of the regular season is awarded the Commissioner's Cup. The MWHL Cup Playoffs are held in April, culminating in the MWHL Cup Finals. The winner of the MWHL Cup Finals is awarded the MWHL Cup. The league also sponsors the MWHL Classic, a mid-season inter-division game held at a neutral location. Great Lakes Hockey League (adult)
The Great Lakes Hockey League (GLHL) is a Semi Professional ice hockey league that is affiliated with USA Hockey. Players must be at least 18 years of age and most have previous NCAA College, Junior A or Professional hockey experience. There are currently nine teams in the league divided into two divisions. The teams are all based in Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. History The league was formed in 1937 as the Badger State Hockey League. The Central West Senior Hockey League (CWSHL) is a Senior ice hockey, senior A ice hockey league in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League
The WOAA Senior AA Hockey League is a Canadian senior ice hockey league governed by the Western Ontario Athletic Association. The league operates in Southwestern Ontario. History Format The league uses Hockey Canada playing rules but is not operated under the jurisdictions of the Ontario Hockey Association or Hockey Canada. The league is based in the Georgian Triangle and Southwestern Ontario. The league has been in existence since 1943, one year after the WOAA itself was established, and has entertained large crowds with local former Junior Hockey players and the odd former professional player. The league is rather large and features teams of both Senior "AA" and Senior "A" calibre. South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League
The South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League (SEMHL) is a senior men's ice hockey league in the province of Manitoba, Canada. Founded in 1951, it is one of Manitoba's longest-running leagues. The SEMHL is affiliated with Hockey Manitoba, the provincial branch of Hockey Canada. Carillon Senior Hockey League
Carillon Senior Hockey League is a Canadian senior men's ice hockey league that plays out of southeastern Manitoba. It is affiliated with Hockey Manitoba, the provincial branch of Hockey Canada. History The league was created in 2003 on the premise that local teams should have local players. The existing senior league at the time, the Hanover-Taché Hockey League (HTHL), included a large number of imported players. During its first season, the CSHL was operated as an independent league and did not have accreditation from Hockey Manitoba. Three teams competed that season (Landmark Dutchmen, Mitchell Mohawks, Ste. Anne Aces) with Mitchell winning the championship. In its second season, the CSHL was accepted by Hockey Manitoba. Qu'Appelle Valley Hockey League
The Qu’Appelle Valley Hockey League is a C-level senior ice hockey and junior ice hockey league in the greater Regina area of Saskatchewan, Canada. It is sanctioned by Hockey Saskatchewan and Hockey Canada. Senior history Formed in 1960, QVHL Senior teams have won Saskatchewan Provincial titles on several occasions. Big 6 Hockey League
The Big 6 Hockey League is a senior men's ice hockey league in south-eastern Saskatchewan, Canada. There are currently nine teams in the league. The league began in 1959-1960 with four teams, the Bienfait Coalers, Frobisher Flyers, Glen Ewen Eagles, and Oxbow Aces. The teams compete for the Lincoln Trophy. The Bienfait Coalers have been the most successful team in league history with 15 championships.
