Riha (Mandaeism)
In Mandaeism, ''riha'' () is incense used for religious rituals. It is offered by Mandaean priests on a ritual clay tray called ''kinta'' in order to establish ''laufa'' (communion) between humans in Tibil (Earth) and uthras (celestial beings) in the World of Light during rituals such as the masbuta (baptism) and masiqta (death mass), as well as during Tarmida#Ordination, priest initiation ceremonies. Various prayers in the ''Qulasta'' are recited when incense is offered. Incense must be offered during specific stages of the typically lengthy and complex rituals. Yuhana Nashmi (; Mandaic language, Mandaic: ; also known as Sheikh Alaa Nashmi or Ala’a Nashmi; ) is an Iraqi-Australian visual artist and ceramicist. Early life Nashmi was born in Baghdad, Iraq. His ''malwasha'' (Mandaean name, baptismal name) is Ram bar Sharat Semat (). In Iraq, he was initiated as a tarmida. He immigrated to Australia in the early 2000s after living in Amman, Jordan from 1998–2000. Career In the mid-2010s, Nashmi collaborated with Christine Robins (''née'' Allison) of the University of Exeter on ''The Worlds of Mandaean Priests'' project to document the Mandaean priesthood. Nashmi served as a field worker and cultural consultant for the project. In 2018, Nashmi created ''Sh-ken-ta'', an exhibition of a shkinta (reed house used for Mandaean priestly rituals), as a site-specific installation at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre. Qulasta
The Qulasta, also spelled Qolastā in older sources (; ), is a compilation of Mandaean prayers. The Mandaic word ''qolastā'' means "collection". The prayerbook is a collection of Mandaic prayers regarding baptisms ('' maṣbuta'') and other sacred rituals involved in the ascension of the soul ('' masiqta''). In Mandaic, individual prayers are generally called ''buta'' (plural form: ''bawata''), although some prayers also known as ''qaiamta'', ''šrita'' (loosing or deconsecration prayers), and other Mandaic designations. There is no standardized version of the Qulasta; different versions can contain varying numbers of prayers, and ordering of the prayers can also vary.
